The Greater Danger for Most of Us Lies Not in Setting Our Aim Too High and Falling Short, but in Setting Our Aim Too Low and Achieving Our Mark.
"The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short, but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark." This quote is significant to a wide variety of people for the mere fact that everyone goes through this. I think that at one point or another, most people will realize goals are meant to be set high rather than low. I also believe people often experience this danger through becoming lazy. The human race is much too powerful to be unproductive. If we set our aim too low, we become incapable of reaching our goals. True satisfaction comes from hard work and morals. An example of this comes from literature. It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini, tells the hardships of a young man who becomes suicidal and checks himself into a psychiatric hospital. The young man, Craig was at his deepest set of depression when he had no motivation. However, when Craig stayed positive with his goals set high; he overcame depression. Another example comes from a film called "Rudy." When Rudy experiences pain and hardships he refuses to be let down. As Rudy reaches for a goal most believe to be out of his reach, he does his best and proves them wrong. From history, we learn that Rosa Parks was a woman who embodied this quote. It was the year 1955 in Alabama, when Parks refused to obey a bus driver's order that she give up her seat and make room for a white passenger. Her action showed she had something to prove, and she was not going to be pushed around anymore.

It's Kind of a Funny Story tells a story of a teen named Craig. Craig has a normal family and friends. Craig's main goal in junior high was to get excellent grades, and an interview to the ivy league school he'd always wanted to go to. Craig was extremely smart and so he got excepted into the school of his dreams. Craig was so happy that day but little did he know, that day was the day would change his life for the worst. As Craig attends the school of his dreams, he

“You arrive at a goal and that makes you happy, but then you notice that the happiness is composed half of relief, half of self satisfaction; the latter half makes you distinctly nervous, and you fall to chewing on your achievements, discounting them. This then becomes the spur to more achievements, more happiness, and more guilt”…

The quote I have chosen is, “Success consists of going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm”. This is one of Winston Churchill's most well known quotes. This quote was said during his reign as the Prime Minister of Great Britain. It is unknown as to where this quote came from but I found it to be very captivating. I feel like Churchill is trying to get the point across that in life it is normal to not be perfect. Everyone makes mistakes and each failure shapes you as a person. Churchill is saying that if you put your mistakes in the past without changing who you are, it makes you stronger and more successful than someone who fails to do so. Being afraid of failure gets you nowhere in life so Churchill is stating that everyone should strive with great enthusiasm in order to be their best self.…

This quote can be applied to many different circumstances in your life. This is why I believe it stands out so much to me. When I first read this quote I thought about football, but then I started thinking about it in a more broad perspective. If you apply it to your job, family, sports, etcetera, it all comes back to what the quote clearly states, no matter what the situation you always have a chance to succeed. Even when you think you've hit rock bottom, if you work to better yourself and your circumstances then you have succeeded. I also see it as when others think you've failed, you can truly judge yourself on how you respond. I always judged success on winning or…

If I was given the opportunity to speak in front of a crowd I would talk about the importance of setting goals in your life. I believe success comes from meeting the goals you have strived to obtain. When I was younger and just starting to grasp the concept of doing things on my own, the word success was very forbidding to me. I wanted to be successful and to make people around me proud, but I wasn’t sure how to go about achieving such things. I never just sat down and thought about what exactly I needed to do to make me successful, I just knew I wanted success out of life. If I had the chance to talk to a younger generation, or maybe even older people who are still struggling, I would tell them to take some time, sit down, and seriously think about what specific things they needed to do that would make them successful in life. The things they would write would ultimately become the small goals that would help them achieve their \\\\\\\larger goal. When you have goals set in your life, the only thing left to do is go get them done! Yes, I know this is the hard part, but when you actually have goals defined in your life, you wake up every morning knowing exactly what you’re working towards. You strive for specific opportunities or instances that someday make you successful. You go after your…

L.M. Montgomery once said “We pay a price for everything we get or take in this world.” I think his idea of this is right. In order for you to accomplish what you want, there will be consequences and you need to get through it. I agree with this quote because it doesn't matter what you want to accomplish there will always be an outcome whether it’s good or bad. There are a lot of books that relate to this quote. One of them being, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and another called The Miracle Worker by William Gibson. Both Of Mice and Men and The Miracle Worker relate to this quote because they both experience and undergo situations and display actions that lead them to pay a price whether they caused it on themselves or not.…

David Mamet correctly stated that, “…it is the human lot to try and fail…” This quote means that human beings are destined to always attempt to improve their lives although they are seldom successful. The two works of literature that best support this interpretation are the The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison and “Macbeth” by William Shakespeare. Pecola and Macbeth, the protagonists from both works, strive to improve their “current” situations but fail miserably.…

Therefore, no matter the goal you are trying to reach, always know failure comes with the enjoyment of success. If I felt like a failure after finding out I did not receive the opportunity to be accepted into the school, I would not have been able to push myself to become greater. Try and you shall succeed. If being successful or achieving a goal was easy; many people would be successful already. However, since being successful or achieving a goal takes a great deal of time and comes with failure; some people rather give up than keep on…

The novel tells us that the fear of failure is the greatest obstacle to happiness. “There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.” So often we hide behind excuses of not being able to do this or that, but the real story is that we are too afraid to take a chance. It is our fear of failing or looking foolish in front of others that keeps us from being who we want to be.…

Genesis 1:27 states that “God created mankind in his own image”. Being great is within us all. We are all given the tools at birth to make something of the gifts that we possess. I am a person that believes anyone can achieve anything they put their minds to, no matter the limitations. Many people often unknowingly limit themselves because they set a ceiling on their potential. Often times, people fall short of greatness not because they aimed too high, but they aimed too low. I have always thought that it was better to set a high goal and to miss, than set a low goal and accomplish it. If you live a life where you are bounded by your limitations, you never truly know how far you could have pushed the envelope and accomplish something. As a result, it is no surprise that those who constantly challenge themselves reach higher peaks than those who are simply satisfied with where they are. Comfort is the enemy of progress. Aristotle is quoted saying that “we are what we repeatedly do; excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit”. I think that this thinking should be applied to goal setting as well. Instead of creating a goal, one should create a system to achieve the goal. The difference is that when a goal is attained, there is no progress beyond that. However, when a system is created, you are able to push pass a goal. Getting a college degree is just a product of the system I have created for myself in order to impact that world on a greater…

But when we do not give up, at the end of the tunnel, there is always light, and it only benefits us. Sometimes we are put in tough situations our self, for example, a student may be doing badly on his/her tests and assignments, but instead of deciding to just drop out of school, if he or she has perseverance and persistence, he/she will continue to study harder, focus in class more, and ask for extra help. Eventually their hard work will pay off, and the student will start to accomplish higher grades on his/her tests and…
