Analysis of “Managing Your Boss”
This article emphasize on the importance of managing your boss. The authors initially stated what “Managing your boss” means, then they support their idea of managing your boss by giving the credible studies sources. They also gave a “sad but telling story” about how this person who got fired because of his poor management between him and his boss. After that, the authors further stress the importance of managing your boss by pointing out the mutual dependence between two fallible human beings. Last but not least, the authors illustrate how to manage your boss in multiple efficient ways, like understanding your boss and yourself.
The authors defined what “managing your boss” means in the first paragraph; they refer managing your boss to “the process of consciously woeking with your superiorto obtain the best possible results foryou, your boss, and the company.” They believe that the effective manager does not only spend their time on how to deal with their suordinators but also on how to maintain the best relationship wih their boss. However, at the same time, other studies show that sometimes this type of relationship can be ignored. So, the authors told a story about this person who ignored the fact that managing his boss is a part of his job, as a result, he did not only get fired but also cause a huge financial and reputation loss to the company. In the second section, the authors pointed out emphatically that this case doesn’t just happen on occasion to a specific person, it applies to everyone who doesn’t give much emphasis on managing their boss. It’s not only a matter of different personalities, but also a matter of unrealistic assumption and expectations about the nature of boss-subordinate relationships as wel as mutual dependence between them.
