Individual Assignment #1: Responding to Globalization
The ideal organization of the 21st century is one that understands cultural and perceptual diversities and how these differences affect behavior. It is a company that knows how to motivate employees and increase productivity through excellent job design, rewards, frequent feedback, and empowerment. Unfortunately, some firms still do not have a clear understanding of how significant is to investigate the impact that individual, groups, and business structures have within an organization. It is also important to be prepared so that employers and employees can respond to many challenges and opportunities that businesses and organizational behavior bring to the table. For example, globalization is currently one of the biggest topics in the business environment that can either make an organization grow or disintegrate it completely. Managing global organizations has been a business challenge for centuries. But the nature of the task is changing with the accelerating shift of economic activity from Europe and North America to markets in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Generally speaking, globalization is the process by which the people of the world are unified into a single society and function together. It is obvious that globalization brings both opportunities and challenges to a business, but it is up to that business to react or respond to the advantages or disadvantages. For instance, managers have to deal with a lot of foreign assignments compared to national labor. This is why communication is an inevitable tool of globalization. The distance between countries might be large but, because of advancements in the field of communication, the decisions are taken and implemented simultaneously and, therefore, efficiency of the company increases. Also, working with people from different cultures can either be a problem or a solution when trying to respond globalization.
