There are a few patterns that I noticed in the Chrysalids the one that really jumped out at me was the idea of “normal” the entire story is based around the idea of “normal” and gods image. My example for the Reading Literacy objective is reading the novel, Invisible Man. Throughout the journey of reading Invisible Man we’ve done pre-reading, reading, and post-reading activities and applied strategies from all three activities to other assignments. Near the beginning of the year she told me that she has dyslexia and is worried of not being able to read or keep up with schooling. I comforted her and told her I would do everything in my power to help her. She has tried different methods of learning and believes she wasn't helped. I don't want her to give up on herself. The assessments that I administered to the student began during my second week of practicum at the Francis Lore Elementary School, and were completed over the course of four weeks. There were a total of five assessments that tested my case study participant’s reading and writing skills. The Informal Reading Inventory, which had my student read multiple grade level passages and word lists, allowed me to measure their reading and comprehension level. The Elementary Spelling Inventory, aided me in assessing the students essential skills of phonics, which will indicate what aspects of writing will need to be approached come time for me to make recommendations and a plan for intervention. This article is a helpful introduction and a kind of a manual to a method called Repeated Reading (RR) used in a classroom to improve speed, accuracy and comprehension of learners while reading texts. RR is a method where students read and then reread a text from two to four times, the text can be read silently or aloud according to teacher’s choice. The author (Joshua Cohen) uses the method himself and finds it very successful whether he used it with L1 or L2 learners. Each child’s reading experience is different than others. Some kids may accelerate as readers being able to pronounce large words, understand the plot of a story and enjoy reading, while others have a more difficult time doing this. As a young child the way I learned to read greatly affected my reading habits when I was older. I am an ardent reader who reads for hours as a hobby. Most times while reading, I would subconsciously scan ,skim, mind map and take notes , just for the pleasure of it without really knowing that these are very important concepts in Metacognitive awareness of reading strategies. After listening to the presentation and reading through the article by Kouider Mokhtari and Carla Areichard,I realized that metacognition provides personal insights into a person’s own thinking and perception. It also fosters independent learning. My students can even enhance their learning by becoming aware of their own thinking as they read, write, and solve problems at school. As a teacher, I can promote this metacognitive awareness by enlightening the students about effective problem-solving strategies and discussing cognitive and motivational characteristics of thinking. When we think of habits we often times think of those negative nagging things we do that we don't want to, or know we shouldn't. But, believe it or not there are such things as 'good' habits things that enhance your life, sharpen your mind, and bring fulfillment every time they are successfully carried out. I believe that reading is one of those habits that if developed in a persons life will bring great satisfaction, and sense of accomplishment to the reader. It has often been assumed that given appropriate instruction, children with intellectual disability can reach a level of achievement in reading commensurate with their level of mental development.
