Personal Narrative: My First School Soccer Game Of The Regular Season
My Personal Narrative

My first school soccer game of the regular season. I jumped onto the bus, excited and nervous about the game. On the ride to George I Sanchez, I was quiet, hoping everything would go well. We got to the school, and the team and i were marveled by it, it was huge, and it looked as if the school was rich. The doors were closed so i had to go through the gate, through the holes, or slide under. I went through the holes and entered and put my stuff down and went onto the field. I went to the goalie box, up to steps and dived to my right just to make sure that the lengths were okay. The refs told me to get off the field. Once off the field, some of the guys got

My first year of storm soccer began in the 6th grade. I was nervous to start my first competitive soccer season. The thing that helped me out the most was that I knew we had a new coach in the program so we all were starting new. The first day of practice he talked to us and we all got to become closer by talking about ourselves and why we are playing the game of soccer.…

After we warmed up it was time to play the final game. We were the home team so we were in the field first. I was playing center field and it was so hot outside that I felt like I was going to melt. When the umpire yelled, ”Play Ball!” I jumped up on my feet and was ready for the first pitch. On the very first pitch the batter hit the ball straight to me. I watched the ball go up in the air and I was putting my glove up in the air ready to catch the ball but then I lost track of it. My sunglasses did not help me with the sun. I was trying to find the ball, but then SMACK! The ball hit me straight in the mouth and I fell to the ground like a sack of…

It was a frigid, windy, Friday night in October. The only light was the bright and beaming illumination of the stadium lights projecting over the soccer field. The bleachers were full, it seemed as if the whole school was there, and as a freshman with anxiety, it made it hard to cope with the fact, that I was going to be a starter for the varsity soccer team.…

My life has revolved around soccer since I was four years old. My whole family was born into the sport and I’m so thankful that I have the support from my family and friends to continue to follow my dream in playing college soccer. I believe my life would not be the same without participating in the sport I love and playing with the people I grew up with. I wouldn’t have met half the people I know now. All my teammate’s families that treat me like their family would have been just imaginary. I wouldn’t have a second family to fall back on when I need. Soccer had made me for who I am. The reason I’m so competed and driven is because of the game. Soccer has helped me become a responsible hardworking young adult that doesn’t like to fail. My never-quit…

By being told to quit something just because I’m not good at it. Back in my 7th grade year when I played football, I was pretty atrocious at everything basically. Trying to run routes against corners, catching, and trying to stay at 110%. I used to play Wide Receiver but they made me change positions because I didn’t try hard enough. They moved me to o-line and I was probably one of the worst players on the team. I only started one game my middle school life as a guard and all I really did was get embarrassed. Missing blocks, not pulling to get the DE, and forgetting the snap count. I didn't play football my 8th grade and my freshman year because my parents said that allergy season was gonna be awful. I was so close to not playing this year,…

It’s game day, and the first time in twenty-three years that we might be able to defeat out school rivals, Turpin. But something didn’t feel like it should, after all it was the biggest day our team’s season. We had immense confidence in ourselves, being the higher raked state team, we expected to win this game then make a large tournament run. Little did we know that the rest of our season relied heavily on this game. Winning or losing this game would not end our season physically, but would emotionally ruin us, ultimately ending our season. The game began with a pleasant, almost soothing blow of the whistle and ended with the blood-curtailing screech of the referee’s dagger, sending shivers down my spin. The roar of our crowd stopped and…

Everyone on my team, including me, were 120% focused during our warm-up because we were versing a good Illinois team and their team’s name was Euro SC Select. This team had a lot of skilled and fast players that were definitely bigger than us. Most of the players on this team were very aggressive and physical too, so my team had to be very strong. There weren’t many times when my soccer games were really intense, but this game was very intense to watch and the parents were getting so nervous and anxious. It was a really close game and we ended up tying the game 0-0. Because of the tie in the championship game, we had to go into penalty kicks. My coach got to choose 5 people to kick from the penalty box and they have to try to make it in. My team was so scared to the point where we all held hands and we stayed very close to each other. In the end we were happy because we had made 3 out of 5 goals in and the other team only made 1 goal out of 5 shots! To phrase it better, my team won the tournament and we all lived happily ever…

In seventh grade I wanted to tryout for volleyball. I was very nervous because I had never played it before. I was super happy when I found out all my friends and I made the team. We had a lot of practices in December to get ready for games in January. I was really nervous for our first game. Our first game was supposed to be right after christmas break ended, but we had a snow day so it was cancelled. I wished it hadn’t been so I could just get it over with, but i was gonna have to wait. We were scheduled for another game later that week. I woke up with a phone ringing and an answering machine saying that school was cancelled due to boiler issues. I sat in bed thinking I had once again gotten lucky and we had no game, I was wrong. We were…

It was the day that most freshmen dread, cuts day. There were many of us trying out for the JV baseball team- more people than there were positions. I could see it, I would be starting catcher on the JV baseball team. I had made it passed the first two weeks of tryouts and I was so confident that I was going to make it. That was, until on that last day of tryouts when the two coaches pulled me out of a drill and told me they wanted to talk to me.…

I was warming up for the game and our coach was giving a speech about our tactics for winning the game and not losing focus of the game. My coach said “today is not the day to be a star, but to play as one”. Most of the players weren't focused on my coach's speech. Over the hot summer, I was doing summer workouts for soccer. My goal this year was to make the varsity soccer team and I knew I could do it with the support from my coaches and peers. My coach had said about a month before workouts started, “You have a really good chance at making varsity this year” and this made me want to work even harder in the coming months of workouts. We had been working out for about three months now starting in around February with the indoor soccer practices and each and every day was hard on us all. Workouts were tough on everyone because of all the cardio and strength training we did as well as working on ball skills. Every day over the summer I would arrive home to find myself going right back to my comfy, warm…

Starting soccer when I was only five years old was challenging because of my October birthday I had to play with all the six year olds. My parents had put me in soccer because I was a young boy filled with too much energy. After playing soccer for about a year I decided I wanted to do more, I loved the sport. I started playing club soccer when I was 7 years old, playing for under the wing of Charley Amblo. This was a training team only, it was not till I was nine that I was started playing for a travel team. This was the beginning of where I learned my leadership, time management, and teamwork dynamics.…

After we finished running, he divided us into our grades. I was a tenth grader, so I went with the tenth grade group. I played with them for a while when one of the coaches told me to go play with the bigger kids. I was so excited! I didn’t know anyone in their group, but I didn’t have to speak English to play with them, so I just played. When we finished our fast day of tryouts, the coach asked me where I was from, and I told him I am from Kenya. He said, “Alright, see you tomorrow.” The next day I came, we ran a lot, andI don’t even remember if we played soccer. When I went home, I was so exhausted that I just went to sleep. The tryout went for a while, and everyone was trying his best to make the school team. The time came for the coaches to choose the team. The ninth grade coach started calling the names of the freshmen that made the freshmen team. Then tenth grade was announced next, and then the junior varsity come I heard my name! I was surprised that I make JV because I thought l would make varsity, but the JV coach told me JV will make me a good player and ready for varsity next year. I was happy to hear that from someone who knows a lot about soccer. I trained everyday so that I…
