Personal Experience: "An Unexpected Event"
An Unexpected Event
Even though it happened two years ago, it marked our lives forever and the image is implanted as if it was yesterday. My friends, Mailina, Yhenny and I, just wanted to give a surprise get together party for one of our friends Letty returning from New York. It has been almost a year since we have seen her and figured we could surprise her with a little party. However, we were all in the dark that day. It was not the right time, right place, neither the right day for us to make a surprise party.
On December 31, we decided to pick her up at the airport for a surprise. At 9pm, we arrived at the airport and parked the car at the terminal assigned parking. Up to that point, all was going according to plan. Our plan then was to attack her from all sides as the second surprise. When she arrived, we did just that and the look in her eyes was pure happiness. The surprise was perfect and all was picture perfect.
Unfortunately, our current state of happiness changed while walking back to the parking lot with all of Letty¡¦s suitcases. While we were walking, back chatting and reminiscing about good times and our surprise. Suddenly, three strange guys appeared in front of us and demanded we give them our belongings. At first, my heart raced and did not notice they were armed. When I finally realized they had a gun one shouted,¡¨ Don¡¦t move or your dead¡¨ In that moment, I was breathless, in shock and terrified for my life. In the ten seconds of pure terror, we were frozen and the thieves took all our possessions. Soon after we realized the thieves took all our belongings, such as Letty¡¦s suitcases, her handbag, all our wallets and cellular phones, even the car¡¦s keys was in Mailina¡¦s handbags.
A few minutes¡¦ later two airport security guards appeared and attempted to catch the criminal. Unfortunately, the thieves got away with all our belongings in a blue Ford Festiva. It seems the security guards were a bit late and too slow to catch them. Soon

With my car crashed I was able to get back home. We lived in a very conflicting area due to the war of cartels known as the "zetas" and the "the gulf cartels", which we have been targeted by them because my family had good work and belonged to a high social class. That was the day that my grandpa passed away. Every single part of that date is engrained in my memory. My parents had driven up to Wisconsin, and my older sister Lauren drove home for college to stay with me. It wasn’t out of the normal for my parents to quickly leave, so I didn’t think much of it. I remember going to hang out with Tatum, my best friend of the time. It was a nice day outside, so of course we were outside playing on the trampoline and doing all our weird routines like we always did. Her family, who was like a second family to me, decided to go out to eat so they brought me along. We went to La Charitas. I remember how Mrs. Teeple pulled out a funny card game for us to play, and I remember Tatum cutting out faces in her tortilla, making us all laugh. When we got back to the house we saw that my sister called, so I said bye to the Teeples and walked one minute down the road to my house. Lauren, who is one of the most emotional in the family, was left with the task of telling me that my grandpa had passed away. I had just grabbed a snack of chocolate cheerios as she started to tell me the news. I didn’t know how to react, so I ran into the basement directly to the furthest corner I could find. Lauren tried talking to me, but I wanted to be by myself. One of the hardest things I have ever done was talking to my dad on the phone after finding out. He called to tell me the plans, that he was coming home to get us, and…

Today has gone so horribly, I believe it couldn’t have been more miserable. We had been up at the police station, around 11pm, after Frank had robbed a store. The next night we planned to see our “much loved” Grandma. The officers told me that Frank was armed with a gun. Although they weren’t going to put him in jail, they let him off with a strong warning, especially about the revolver.…

When the teller opened the register, I saw his pupils double in size and then I heard the gunshot. I immediately dropped to the floor. He told me and the five other customers to get on the ground and to be quiet. A little kid started to cry. I saw the man smile through his ski mask and he walked over to the child. He picked up the kid with one arm and held him in a choke hold. I felt so bad for the little guy. He told the teller that if he doesn’t open the safe, he would kill the kid. That was when the teller told him that he didn’t know the combination to the safe. He threw the kid on the ground and shot his gun at least three times into the…

I thought about my actions and figured that we both were to blame. After all, we both kept going at it with the music. The next day, I decided to create a welcome basket, as an apology for the night before. As I got to her house, I saw that she had a surprised expression and stopped whatever she was doing in her garden. I continued on the path to her house, with a tiny nervous smile on my face, as I didn’t know what to expect from her. As I began to approach her holding my gift basket in one hand, I raised it up towards her, and began to…

It was a dark and busy night, we both lived near each other, but far from the party so the only route home was the highway. We entered the highway ramp onto the road, swerving side to side and not even knowing it. The first couple of minutes of driving was fine, but ten or so minutes in, it all changed. My life flashed before my eyes, as I turned onto the opposite lane of the highway, unaware, we had gotten into a head-on collision with another vehicle. I was barely conscious with blood gushing from my forehead, I had looked over to my side to see how my best friend was doing and there was no sign of him, he had been ejected from the…

My fourth listed life event is the epitome of a nonnormative event, which randomly occurred, and was most likely meant to be harmless. This was a very specific incident that would have lasting consequences on my personality type. When I was 15 years old, and even though I had begun drinking and using drugs, I still maintained a very high level in school. One day, I brought home a test from class in which I scored 100% on and showed it to my father. He looked at it, and handed it back to me, and said, “couldn’t you have gotten any extra credit?” While, as an adult, I believe that it was my dad’s way of saying “wow, good job,” all I heard was that nothing is ever good enough and only perfection is acceptable.…

She purchased a silver-studded belt for $40.00 and continued perusing. While perusing Ms. Wilson started to pick up ten bottles of perfume one by one and placed them in her purse. Most of the bottles placed into the purse retail at more than $150 each. The store's undercover security guard, Amare Sitota, watched Wilson as she placed the perfume bottles in her purse. As she started to leave Sitota leaped in Wilson's path and shouted, "Where do you think you are going? Hand over the bag and the perfume." Wilson then took a…

    Life Changing Events

When people talk about life changing events, they usually talk about families’ death or certain path they took, which shaped their life. Just like any other people, one of my close friends mother, who is originally from Nepal has experienced such life changing events such as leaving their home country behind for better opportunities for themselves or their loved ones, which not only changed her, but also changed the way she anticipated her life to be. When my friends’ mother left her country Nepal, she did not only leave the country itself, but also had to leave her relatives behind. Migrating from home country to another must have been hard because of language and culture barrier. I admire the step she took because it’s tough to move from a place you grew up at down to a whole new country. It must have been hard for her to make such life changing decision, but she did it anyways because she knew if she migrates from Nepal to United States, her children would have better opportunities in life. She has inspired me to be strong. She motivates me no matter what decision I make, I have to stick with it 100% and give my best at it because wherever I go or whatever I do, life will move with me. It’s my choice to either make the most of it or slouch back and cry about it. My friend’s mom is someone who I really admire. She has been through so much and she stayed strong throughout everything. I know for a fact that I will have a life changing experience just like my friends mother because in Indian traditions, we always have to migrate away from parents to go move in with the husband’s side of the family. So this would be a life changing event due to all the moving away from family. It’s hard phase of life. My other best friend had a life changing experience about her divorced parents. This was a really devastating time of her childhood. She told me that about four years ago, she had a life ‘makeover’. It was the day her parents decided to get divorced. She was fifteen…

5 years ago, a guy who pretending really friendly “kidnaped” her and never let her go, even worse, I’m forced to be in this occasion and give everyone a speech about how “sad” I am after my best friend left me, then run into another person’s arms or bed, whatever. That was my fault because I couldn’t find any cause why they may not be lawfully joined together, so I have to hold my peace forever.…

Bonnie and I had gotten engaged in August, just before she left for college at Penn State. A week before Thanksgiving, I drove up to see her as a surprise. When I knocked on the door of her dorm room, she was indeed surprised, but not in a pleasant way. She introduced me to her roommate, who looked uncomfortable and quickly left. I asked Bonnie how classes were going, and at the same time I tugged on the sleeve of…
