Jordan Abortion Analysis
The second half of this post brings up a very popular discussion topic in society today. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and not everyone is going to think the same way. The way we were raised, where we live, how educated we are, etc. is all related to how we see the world around us. This refers to our particular topic of study in this class; cultural anthropology. Different point of views allow us to see information from all sides, whether we choose to try and listen, is up to us. I agree with Jordan on the topic of abortion. In some cases, such as rape, I feel a woman should be able to decide for herself if she wants to have that child. However, waiting until the third trimester of pregnancy

    Yet another idea, from Joshua Lang (date 06/12/13) is that the children whose mothers are denied abortions, and the women who were denied abortion are worse off than those who were allowed abortions. Women who had to carry unwanted pregnancies had more negative outcomes with physical health and economic stability, such as their higher rates of hypertension, which is unusually high blood pressure and chronic pelvic pain, after the birth. Those women were also three times as likely to end up in poverty two years later, than women who had gotten the abortion they had wanted. Even though most of the women grow to love the child they had originally not wanted, five percent still feel that they would have rather had gone through with the abortion. A very complex and ongoing study has found no correlation between having symptoms of anxiety and depression, and with having an abortion, but those who did not get abortions did show more signs of anxiety over the next few months after being turned away by abortion centers. The children born from unwanted pregnancies had definite disadvantages. They were all slightly overweight, had lower grades with bad social skills, were less popular among other classmates and teachers, and even sometimes, their own mothers.…

    How can the abortion issue be resolved? Many believe that the issue can be resolved if, and only if, we can determine when human life begins. Those opposed to abortion choice typically say that human life begins at conception. Many who favor abortion choice say that we will never know when human life begins.     The debate over the choice to have an abortion and the timeline used to say when an abortion should be allowed is one that has caused much divide in society and in the courtroom. There are varying views and opinions from the moment of conception being a soul and when a fetus is considered human. There are also those who suggest that babies are not actually human until they are completely formed.     As a catholic-born child, I was brought up with very strict rules laid out before me that would help me with choices such as the holy sacrament of confirmation and marriage to the very controversial choice of abortion. Since I’ve been Catholic all of my life, I am a firm believer in the pro-life choice, which is advocating full legal protection of embryos and fetuses along with high opposition to the legalization of induced abortions. A baby is a baby is a baby. Whether it is an embryo, fetus, or almost a full term baby, it is still considered life. That is how I like to view this topic. This semester I plan to research why abortion is morally wrong and should be illegal. Although I feel this way, I also want to establish that there are a few exceptions in my book that would be considered lawful if a woman was considering aborting a life. Exceptions such as saving a woman when she is in danger or when she is a victim of rape or incest should be considered and ultimately allowed because in order to keep evolution going, a woman must be alive. In some cases, doctors believe that removing the fallopian tubes or performing a hysterectomy, knowing the embryo or fetus will die, is justifiable because otherwise, she would be certain to die. Since there are laws that separate church and state, I cannot and will not base my reasons solely on my religion.
