Internship: Developmentally Appropriate Care And Education
The skill and knowledge I have gain through this internship experience relates to several of the Standard of Practice. For example I gain professional development knowledge through attending class, reflective practice, research and the training manual. I was then able to apply this knowledge to gain practical skill, which is highlighted through Standard IV: Professional Knowledge and Competence (ECEC, 2011):
• “build effective relationships with colleagues and other professionals by using clear verbal and written communication, and positive interpersonal skills” (ECEC, 2011, p. 20)
• “current in their professional knowledge” (ECEC, 2011, p. 19)
• “observe and monitor the learning environment and anticipate when support or intervention is required” (ECEC, 2011, p. 19)

Lastly, I feel that the knowledge and skills I have gain from this experience relate to Standard II: Developmentally Appropriate Care and Education. Planning lessons for each session provide hands on experience developing appropriate experiences and activities for my student current literacy level. It also provided opportunities to developing experiences and activities that challenged my student and allowed myself to scaffold his learning. The following is the highlight from this standard:
• “plan, implement and assess developmentally appropriate learning strategies” (CECE, 2011, p.15)
• “recognize that child development milestones and behaviors vary and they acknowledge and respect those differences” (CECE, 2011, p.15)
• “provide opportunities for children to develop the skills needed to regulate their behaviour and to make decisions” (CECE, 2011, p.
