Over 500,000 people are employed by USPS as career employees. This means that this job is permanent and will not change unless they must be laid off (Rubio). If the post office were to go more mechanical, less human, the United States people would be losing thousands of jobs. Many American citizens would be losing their livelihood. The amount of people employed by USPS is almost 7 times more than the number of employees by google. Dawn Hawkins stated the post office is “ one of the few jobs that can’t be outsourced to other countries…”. This is why USPS should not change because it provides thousands of jobs to American people. The United States Postal Service also provides a less expensive (cheaper) alternative to mailing not only letters but also large packages. With the congressional mandated 5+ billion dollar prefunded health care payment, along with the rise of other forms of communication (E-mail, Facebook etc) the USPS found itself in a deep sea of red ink. With a future of uncertainty and an antiquated business model, can the Post Office survive?…

If I were the current CEO for the United States Postal Service, I would be gravely concerned about the future of my business, as it has recently taken a steep plummet from its success and popularity in the 19th and 20th centuries. The USPS is now faced with the decision to renovate itself due to the extreme loss of business as technology takes over the 21st Century. Some say that the USPS should be entirely reconstructed because the business is only headed further downhill, while others say that paper mail is still very practical, more so than e-mail, and we must each write more letters to do our part in reviving the business to profitability again. Because the USPS has been such a vital part of our country through its contribution to communication and employment, the organization needs to stay afloat by cutting back on delivery days, strategically rebranching throughout the country, and recapturing the importance of itself through advertising, in order to adapt to the new technology-based era.…

One of the steps to helping the USPS keep up with all the new technology is to increase services and give their customers more options. People are choosing other ways because postal services aren’t as efficient as the internet. According to Source A, they are dropping from six- to five-day delivery. With the lack of faith in their services and drop in delivery days, the number of customers will probably decrease due to the slow services. The USPS should be providing a seven-day delivery service so their customers can be guaranteed to receive their letters and packages faster and easier. The inefficient and unreliable service causes the number of mail to decrease but increasing services can help attract and gain the trust of customers.…

The United States Postal Service (USPS) has delivered packages and other various mail for more than two centuries. With a significant increase to the USPS, however, the deficit in income has caused the USPS to shorten delivery days. In light of this, the United States Postal Service should not cut back on delivery days, but alternatively be reconstructed to meet the needs of Americans. It is important to support the traditions of the USPS by revamping the corporation’s policy, image, and by implementing modern-day morals.…

The U.S. Post Office was granted a monopoly in 1775 and has operated under federal protection ever since. To enable the Post Office Department to serve all Americans, no matter how remote, yet still finance its operations largely from its revenue, Congress gave the Department a monopoly over the carriage of letter-mail by a group of federal laws known as the Private Express Statutes. On February 20, 1792, Congress enacted its first major postal law under the U.S. Constitution.…

One action the United States Postal Service can take to save money is stopping saturday deliveries. These deliveries will merely be set aside and delivered on the following business day. This will help cut costs, as the post office would not have to pay operating costs or employees on this day. Stopping saturday deliveries would save the United States Postal Service $40 billion over a decade (Source F). The second money saving tactic would be to consolidate and close some post offices. By doing this, it eliminates some post offices and allows money to be spent on the remaining. In addition, the consolidated post offices will be busier and more…

Postal wages were not increased in a consistent manner, so due to this many of their full-time employees lived below poverty level. From 1967-1969, postal employees did not see not one pay increase. Even though Congress was generous when it came to their pay increases, they simply ignored the post office’s request. Even when certain commission’s suggested that these workers deserved the same collective bargaining rights that private-sector workers under the National Labor Relations Act were given, Congress simply denied that request. The strike officially began when New York City postal department workers joined together and simply refused to work. Since the country operated primarily through mail at that time, many businesses, homes, and even the court system were greatly impacted by the strike. It was at that moment that the country felt the impact the post office had on their everyday lives. Businesses were unable to send or receive mail. Many banks had no money coming in or out. Even Wall Street was greatly affected by this strike. Even though we live in a digital world now, back in the 1970’s they just weren’t able to operate the…
