A gap year is a period of time when learners take a break from formal education to grow self-awareness, learn from different cultures, and experiment with possible jobs. It is believed that this affects students positively while opponents argue that it possesses numerous drawbacks. I strongly agree with the first ideas due to two following justification.
Albeit students are taught wide academic knowledge at high school but only in a gap year do they gain realistic experience and learn skills markedly. Primarily, thanks to it students have opportunities to apply knowledge into reality, triggering their knowledge to be arranged and remembered for long time. Especially, they possibly have more experience about cultures, relations and practical life. Equally significant, not only expanding knowledge and experience but also in that, do students learn profitable skills. It would be unreasonable that communication skill and self-management skill namely time, finance and independence are developed when students use their gap year correctly. As a saying goes “Travelling forms a young man” is the most suitable answer for advantages of gap year.
Another benefit is orientation of career supporting students to acknowledge their capacity and understand requirements of each jobs. To commence with, a gap year is of extreme importance for students to realize their merits and demerits assisting them in selecting higher academic major or career. To illustrate, students who prefer volunteer possibly opt to work for non-government organizations whereas others love travelling probably become tour guides. Additionally, that students acquire general understanding of numerous jobs justifies odds of gap year in orientation. In evidence, USA-a gap year study between 1997-2010 showed that 63% said they confirmed their choice of career owing to gap year. Thus, affluent nations as UK, Italia, France form the best conditions for students to conduct favourite jobs in this time.

Chris Kelly’s article, “Viewpoint: Gap years are good for students –and for schools” published in USA Today offers countless examples as to why taking a year off before college is beneficial for students. Kelly starts the article by using former president Barack Obama’s daughter, Malia Obama, as an example of a great student taking a year before college to get herself ready for the next stage of her life. He continues his claim by expressing that while in the past colleges have frowned upon taking a gap year, colleges today are actually suggesting students to take a constructive year off to get themselves mentally and physically ready before attending a university. Colleges believe students who do this come to college more ready to succeed…

Brian Witte explains the 3 myths of the gap year in this article. In the United States, the popularity of the gap year has just recently been growing. According to Brian Witte, the cause behind this unpopularity is because of the myths told about taking a year between your senior year of high school and freshman year of college. The first myth of taking a gap year is that “a gap year is like a vacation” (Witte). Many students decide to work to either make some extra money or put the money earned into their college tuition. Some students volunteer for more experience towards their major or what they plan on doing in life. Although every student chooses a different path, “each of these options involves effort” (Witte). Another popular myth is…

Summer breaks can cause “summer slide” which is the decline of academic skills and knowledge over a long vacation. This shows that going to year-round school won’t make you forget over a long vacation. This also shows that if you don’t forget over a long vacation that you can improve your academic skills since you don’t have long breaks. All in all year-round schooling can improve a student’s skills and knowledge.…

If students are away from school for a shorter amount of time, they will not forget information and will remember how to work properly. For example, if students are away for a long time, they will forget how to work and act in the school environment. However, if they are not of as long, then they will remember more and act properly in school. Staying in school for longer periods of time will make students get better grades. When students stay in school and work more, they will have more practice and perform better on tests, leading to students obtaining better grades. Finally, with summer break shortened, school life will ultimately improve. With students being in school together for longer time frames, they will have to be around each other longer, and that will cause new friendships to be made and relationships to form. As the old saying goes, “ Friends in high school are friends for life.” Some people say that summer break should not be shortened and school should not go year round. This is wrong because when summer break is shortened and school goes year round, students ultimately benefit because their grades improve and they retain information over the…

Students love their summers, but their brains don’t. Children tend to forget significant information over the three month break. An improvement to the education system will happen through freedom of choice for students in the tenth grade of high school. Students will be able to choose to continue schooling or directly enter the workforce/technical school. This reduces strain on the education system by not having to educate a large portion of children for the extra two years that is commonplace in our current system. A similar education system has been implemented in some European countries to great success (5). To prevent abuse of the system, in order to avoid working for the betterment of society, there will be a four year time period in order to obtain the necessary schooling to succeed. However, people can still attempt to continue their education after the four year time limit, but these people must work a full time job along with schoolwork to continue claiming societal benefits. These measures ensure people can have the career they want to have, and this is one of the primary aspects that keeps the system running and…

Ring Ring! there's go the alarm clock, Oh yeah! I have to go to school. Think about it, three months of not using anything that we learned during the school year and we are expected to effectively jump back from that. With year-round schooling, we can better transition to the next grade without having to recap what we learned in the previous year. This point can be proven in three basic concepts; First, less schooldays wasted, more days progressing and advancing. Secondly, year-round schooling will create less stress for students and teachers . Finally, information can be retained faster, save time for the teachers, and improve test grades.…
