According to Goldman (1997), The first stage of existence of graffiti go back to the beginnings of human, societal living. Graffiti has been found on uncovered, ancient, Egyptian monuments, and graffiti even was maintained on walls in Pompeii. Graffiti is the plural form of the Italian word grafficar. In plural, grafficar means drawings, markings, patterns, scribbles, or messages that are painted, written, or carved on a wall or surface. Grafficar also symbolize "to scratch" in reference to different wall writings ranging from "cave paintings", bathroom scribbles, or any message that is scratched on walls. Graffiti art originated in the late 1960's, and it has been developing ever since. Graffiti has become a worldwide phenomenon and is well develop by the young generation. In the eye of some experts in Sociology field, they believed that Graffiti is not a type of vandalism but it is a form of expression by the youth, it is also a type of art and a medium to develop creativity of the people.

Nicole De Freitas (2012) said that graffiti is an art form where people can express their feelings and thoughts that are able to leave a big impact on a city. In today’s rapid growing community, the authority sometimes had overlooked upon the fresh ideas and opinions of the youth. Banksy is a famous Graffiti artist and his work is controversial and provokes the attention of the media and government; it often portrays exactly what is happening in society .The way I see Graffiti is a form of expression in voicing out opinions of the young minds on certain issues to be heard. Graffiti is use to highlights important issues in a society. In a way, Graffiti can be used to see the growth of mind in a society. What are expressed through the art are the thoughts of the society as it acts as a benchmark.
