Ethical Actions Worksheet

Write a 100- to 150-word response to each of the following questions:

• Was there anything in either the University of Phoenix Student Code of Conduct or the Student Code of Academic Integrity that surprised you? If so, what was it? Why were you surprised? If not, why not?

Nothing in the University of Phoenix Student Code of Conduct or the Student Code of Academic Integrity surprised me because it is all common sense and we should all know what is right from wrong. These ethics should be personal as well. Sadly some people have no heart and go around verbally abusing others for example. There is a saying “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me” I don’t know who came up with that but it is far from the truth. The words you speak to another person can stick with them for life. I still remember my grade school years a girl had pointed out something about my nose and I never forgot that. We have to be considerate with our words when speaking to one another.

• What did you learn about the behaviors considered important for an ethical learner or student in the University of Phoenix learning community?

As a student here at the University of Phoenix would be expected to have the honor and respect
For my fellow classmates and instructors that I would also hope to receive from them likewise.
I know respect is earned and one way you can earn respect is to be open minded and realize that your opinion is not the “Right” opinion everyone has a different view on different subjects and we should all respect each others opinions. Listening to others opinions from both sides is always very helpful when and you can learn from the side that you don’t necessarily agree with however you can see their point of view on the subject.

    Aggie Code Of Honor

One thing that I greatly appreciated, when I was deciding which univeristy to attend, was how well Texas A&M expressed the Aggie Code of Honor. "Aggies do not lie, cheat, or steal or tolerate those who do." A very simple saying, but one that is heard and seen all around campus. It is tied to the university as much as the word "Howdy". It is great that this motto of academic integrity is already stiched to Texas A&M because its easier for professors and the university to promote academic integrity. Professors and the university need to continue to explicitly preach the Aggie Code of Honor throughout the semester as a reminder for students. Also one thing that students are not knowlegeable of are the consequences of acting acadebmically dishonest.…

With the rise of the digital age cheating and plagiarism are becoming easier for students to get away with, with more access to information and higher stakes some would argue it had become a ‘necessary evil’. In turn it has also become easier to find and punish cheaters, but disputes on how to regulate these students and hopefully prevent cheating and ever waging. Honor codes have been implemented at schools and universities across the nation, that are a written agreement that require students to be honest in their work and conduct, especially promising not to cheat; however, many people (both students and administrators) are questioning if they actually provide positive results. My school Foothills Academy does not have an honor code implemented,…

Why is it necessary for a university to establish a code of conduct? The University of Florida’s answer is in the following quote, “The University of Florida is an institution which encourages the intellectual and personal growth of its students as scholars and citizens. As an educational institution, the University recognizes that the transmission of knowledge, the pursuit of truth, and the development of individuals require the free exchange of ideas, self-expression, and the challenging of beliefs and customs. In order to maintain an environment where these goals can be achieved safely and equitably, the University promotes civility, respect, and integrity among all members of the community. As stated in the Standard of Ethical Conduct, students are expected to exhibit high standards of behavior and concern for others. The University strives to protect and guide the educational community by establishing a Student Conduct Code and student judicial system, which promotes individual and social responsibility” (Electronic). The code of conduct is a legacy document existent in some of the first universities. Why do Universities deem it necessary to implement such a code? A code of conduct is necessary to inform students about the rules of engagement in the academic environment and attempt to preserve academic integrity and prevent infractions such as plagiarism. What constitutes misconduct in the academic environment? What are some examples of misconduct in the student environment? Why is it important for a student to understand and be familiar with the code of conduct? Students who do not understand the university 's established code of conduct are more likely to perform infractions of misconduct. Not understanding these rules can negatively affect not only the individual 's academic progress but the team 's established goals and academic performance as well. Information is power. Universities should implement briefings and presentations to increase the awareness of…

Respect is like a mirror, what you do to it, is what’s reflected unto you. Showing respect is one of the basic things that we were taught of when we were young. Therefore, it’s a set rule that one must show respect to others, it’s only common sense for us. When we show respect to others, they are given the obligation to show respect as well, such is the way of communication. If respect isn’t presented in a conversation, it is meaningless and you can only learn very little of it. This is because people tend to disregard another person’s opinion if he/she shows no respect whatsoever to the speaker. One must first respect another’s opinion before one can be shown the same, it is also better for us to acknowledge their opinions so that we, ourselves can learn from it.…
