• Was there anything in either the University of Phoenix Student Code of Conduct or the Student Code of Academic Integrity that surprised you? If so, what was it? Why were you surprised? If not, why not?

There was not anything that surprised me in the University of Phoenix Code of Conduct or the Student Code of Academic Integrity. I am used to having the codes since I have had them all trough out school and at my work place. The Code of Conduct and Student Code of Academic Integrity help guide us that truth and honesty are what are important and that we as students should never lie, cheat, take shortcuts or impose on others rights. In other words, every community, school, and workplace have a set of rules that should be followed to ensure that everyone is in a safe environment.

• What did you learn about the behaviors considered important for an ethical learner or student in the University of Phoenix learning community?

As a student at University of Phoenix I would be expected to honor and respect my fellow classmates and instructors. We should all behave in an ethical manner and make proper decisions in the choices that we make. By taking shortcuts you are cheating yourself out of your full educational experience and going to end up hurting yourself in the end. Every student learns in different ways, some are visual learners, others are hands-on. No matter which way we learn we know that the resources we have at University of Phoenix tell us what we need to know.

• Why are the Student Code of Conduct and Student Code of Academic Integrity important to you and the University of Phoenix learning community?

The Code of Conduct and the Student Code of Academic Integrity are important to me because it helps guide me into knowing what is acceptable and what is not. They remind me to stay honest, that being truthful is a good charastistic that

One thing that I greatly appreciated, when I was deciding which univeristy to attend, was how well Texas A&M expressed the Aggie Code of Honor. "Aggies do not lie, cheat, or steal or tolerate those who do." A very simple saying, but one that is heard and seen all around campus. It is tied to the university as much as the word "Howdy". It is great that this motto of academic integrity is already stiched to Texas A&M because its easier for professors and the university to promote academic integrity. Professors and the university need to continue to explicitly preach the Aggie Code of Honor throughout the semester as a reminder for students. Also one thing that students are not knowlegeable of are the consequences of acting acadebmically dishonest.…

In the wake of numerous cheating scandals, such as those at the University of Virginia and Harvard, many people have began to question the effectiveness of honor codes (sources C, D). Honor codes can be defined as a set of rules implemented in a school that are based around morals that define both acceptable and unacceptable behaviors. While many feel as though such guidelines are necessary in maintaining a schools’ dignity, others believe that honor codes are impossible to enforce. Honor codes should not be enforced because they are too harsh, unrealistic, and put innocent students in uncomfortable social situations.…

The University of Western Sydney (UWS) has a set academic standard of work that is expected for all current and future students to meet. In order to do so, the ‘Academic Misconduct Policy’ is enforced to incorporate ethical conduct with a students learning experience. The policy defines and categorizes any form of misconduct in to two, which depends on the threat that it may or may not have towards the university’s education system to delegate appropriate penalties of alleged student(s). ‘Minor misconduct’ produces a minimal threat, which is generally the result of a…

My reaction to Davidson’s honor code is simple, I like it. The honor code is taken seriously and it is a declaration for justice. I would hope more schools could follow suit about being strict with the integrity of their students work. If you build this type of environment where people can successfully research topics and report on them in their own words the possibilities are endless. In addition you will leave a lasting impression on the students and they will always keep these values with them in life. I’m sure all the Davidson alumni are grateful they had a school like that to teach them to do the right things.…
