Engineer Interview Report
On November 18, I interviewed with Brian Lai who is the applications engineer in Nassda Corporation. The meeting was held in a restaurant at 6 p.m., right after he finished his work on the day. The meeting was so exciting and informative. We spent more than one hour in the restaurant and for the dinner. The purpose of my interview was to seek information about electrical engineering and obtain more information on how to achieve my career goal. At the beginning of the interview, I asked him about his background and his education. He came from Hong Kong when he was 15 years old. In 1998, he received his bachelor degree at University of California in Berkeley. He told me that he had an internship with Sun Microsystems before he graduated. He also told me that he learned a lot of things from there. After that, I asked him what the most important thing was that he learned in the university. First, he pointed out that the circuit design concept and programming language are the most important things since his job applied these knowledge a lot. As an applications engineer, he always helps customers to test their products and reports the customers about their testing results. When he examines an electric product, he needs to fully understand the circuit structure of the product. If he doesn¡¯t have circuit design concept, it is impossible to understand the circuit structure and the function of the product. He also need to design and write an interface program (a program for a computer to control a specific electronic hardware) when he exam a product. To write an interface program, he needs to use a lot of programming knowledge which he learned in school. Second, he told me that the communication skill is also another important issue we need to learn in the university. Besides writing program and solving circuit problem, he needs to communicate with his boss and persuade his customers. He needs to write memos and reports every week. In order to explain the situation and

Psychologists have been studying human behavior for many years and they have come up with lots of theories as to why some behave one way and others another. One theory is that a person’s environment defines who they are; another theory is that a person can inherit certain traits, either way in the end all of the different theories contribute to who we are. There are different ways to which we can learn behaviors, like operant conditioning and classical conditioning. Operant conditioning is when a person has an experience that may have had an effect on them and they are reminded of that experience anytime that they are around something similar, this creates a behavior. Then there is classical conditioning which is a behavior that is installed in a person maybe from their childhood, like for instance a parent installing success, this is also a learned behavior.…

However, psychologists and researchers have been developing patterns in how experiences and processes shape the way we are and how we handle certain tasks. There are many variables that shape the way we learn and remember, our attitudes and personality, and what motivates us. To better understand these experiences and processes, I will compare the same characteristics of my own to a young girl named Jenny. We are both close in age, background, gender, race and circumstance.…

Mr. Mun was extremely busy, as are all Madonna students, writing papers and answering questions for the other international students. I asked if it would be possible to have the interview in a setting where we could better hear each other but with his schedule and mines, that was not possible. The interview went forward with me standing at the desk and with Mr. Mun answering questions in-between helping the other students.…

I interviewed my sociology instructor Chelsea Bullard; she is a red head and has a very bubbly personality. In class she smiles and laughs frequently. Interviewing her was interesting because she is a grad student and has been in school for seven years and has two- three more years to go. Her experiences can be helpful for people that are undecided about their major. Declaring a major can be very scary. It’s normal for college students to find a new passion while in college straying from their intended major.…
