Computer-generated imagery Computer-generated imagery (CGI) is the application of the field of computer graphics or, more specifically, 3D computer graphics to special effects in art , video games , films , television programs , commercials , simulators and simulation generally, and printed media. The visual scenes may be either dynamic or static. Here is a picture made with computer-generated imagery, modern architects use services from computer graphic firms to create 3D models for both customers and builders.These computer generated models can be more accurate than traditional drawings. Take a look at the movies in the last two decades, all these high-tech movies were definitely the most splendid wonders, the top 10 global box-office were achieved by these films. In Hollywood, computers and digital technology has become more and more important, and provided a set of producing methods and tools. Therefore, the academy of motion picture arts and sciences announced a new scientific and technical award since the 68th Oscar award. The American computer-generated imagery first initiated in military and aerospace industry. At that time, the equipment are super huge and the producing proceed is quiet difficult. After the 1980s, computer-generated imagery has become increasingly matured. A few of film makers start to try this technology to make their stories more convincing. In the 1990s, computer-generated imagery is widely used in the film making industry. During this period, the visual images created with computer-generated imagery have conquered the audience, the box- office of films has made unprecedented breakthroughs. The new technology brought film making industry into a new phase and strengthened the leading place of Hollywood movies all over the world.
