BUS 100. Students in a CIS program or CRI can contact the School of Business for permission to register.
Course Overview This course consists of a general overview of the behavior of individuals and groups, especially as this behavior relates to formal organizations. It is designed to familiarize students with basic theories and concepts from the social sciences. Students will have an opportunity to participate in a variety of structured learning experiences where these theories can be studied and the concepts applied.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the concepts, theories and models that deal with human behavior in organizations.
2. Apply these concepts in a practical manner to real life situations.
3. Explain human behavior in all types of organizations (e.g. businesses, service-based organizations, volunteer-based organizations) and different types of work arrangements (e.g. individual work, group or team work, department or organization-based work).
4. Identify barriers to effective decision-making process such as perceptual errors.
5. Explain the relationship between personality, values and job person matching.
6. Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of teamwork in organizations.
7. Explain the sources of power in organizations and their impact on individual and team performance.
8. Describe various leadership styles and their influence in an organizational setting.
9. Explain how organizational performance is affected by its culture and values.
