Bandag Automotive has recently been taken over by the founder’s son, Jim Bandag. He tends to run the business the complete opposite direction of his father, sales and profit have improved however the company is now facing more litigation for discriminatory and alleged illegal employment practices. As such, Bandag Automotive does need to reorganize its human resource management function. They seem to have been successful in the function of human resource management that involves “acquiring, training, appraising, and compensating employees (Dessler 2011).” However there tends to be issues with labor relations and concerns with fairness. They also don’t seem to have any issues with health or safety concerns. Effective human resource management helps a company avoid mistakes that can be made because there is a lack of knowledge of legal and ethical employment practices. A company with effective human resource management should not have multiple instances in which they are facing a risk of being taken to court for allegedly committing any unfair labor practices and practicing any discriminatory actions. These instances in the numerous conditions that they are also risk affecting the company’s ability to build and sustain morale within its employed staff. Because the company is facing such issues and the size of the company has grown over the years it may well be time for the company to acquire a human resource staff that is knowledgeable in this specialization that can offer assistance and advice in which the company is in obvious need of. To improve upon the human resource system and practice Bandag Automotive should hire a Human Resource Manager. This manager can come into the company and create human resource policies that are in line with the company’s objectives.
