Athletes Should Be Paid Essay
There are thousands of athletes getting paid millions of dollars for just playing a season of basketball, football, baseball, and etc. While nurses, firefighters, police officers, and the military are risking their lives for complete strangers. Some people think that these athletes deserve more than they do right now. I personally think that they don’t deserve what they are getting. Look at it this way, people are actually risking their lives, fighting for our country, and trying to keep us safe. You’re trying to tell me that basketball, men running up and down the court, is more important than the people putting their own lives in danger.
Athletes do work hard to achieve their goals, but talent is something you can’t put a price on no matter how much time or effort you put into it. To begin, we have people playing basketball games for a living. What does that say about our society? We have men and women who are willing to risk their very own lives for someone else’s. Our soldiers are getting paid ¼ of what Lebron James, James Harden, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant make A YEAR for just playing basketball. “The work of professional athletes certainly pays off for us.” Carro quotes. I don’t think it pays off for us. Secondly, in the world today, we have valued the entertainment

There are nurses who can work 24/7 without any sleep and still not make that much for a living. These negligible athletes don’t notice how hard these other people are working for a living.
To conclude,“Money follows art. Money wants what it can’t buy. Class and talent. And remember, while there’s talent for making money, it takes real to know how to spend it.” -Candace Bushnell. “Professional athletes are certainly impressive, but are they really worth millions of dollars more than the rest of us?” -Jesse

The article “Do Professional Athletes get Paid too much Money” is written by Mihir Bhagat a senior analyst. Bhagat believes professional athletes make too much money. In his article he explains the amount of money someone is paid should be based on the economic importance and value of the job for society (1). This happens for the fact that, again, the people in this country tend to care about having fun rather than anything else. Another reason as to why the amount of money that athletes receive is ludicrous is that, “...retired athletes can go on to have lucrative jobs,” (Edelman 24). Being involved in lucrative jobs means always making tons of money, and more than almost everyone else. “...there are plenty of people who have difficult and dangerous jobs, and no one is handing them exorbitant amounts of money,” (Edelman 24). As to why people do not pay people who work strenuously becomes lost upon the vast majority of people, but I believe that it is for the fact that no one actually cares about them. All in all, the fact that people who gallop around all day, and still acquire millions of dollars, is a truly disturbing truth that burdens us…

College athletes have a very busy schedule when they finished classes and practice, they have very little free time. During those free time, they sleep or do schoolwork. Student athletes are required to take a minimum of twelve credit hours each semester and they have to pass at least nine credit hours. With these rules, the athletes are spending many of hours of studying or going to class. After studying and going to their classes, they have to go to practice. Going to practice takes up about four to seven hours a day. After a long day, the athletes only have a few couple of hours for them to have some down time like watching Netflix or sleeping. These athletes are also college students who are not getting paid for their commitments. They have to find time to put work in. When athletes are looking for a job, they are very limited to only have a couple of hours a day to work. A large number of jobs want their employees to be available to work on the weekends, this tough for an athlete to look for a job because they are never available on weekends because they are traveling with the team to…

Imagine this: you are in the military force, you risk your life on a day-to-day basis for our country's freedom. If you survive fighting, you sleep on an uncomfortable, rock hard bed and eat nauseating food. You work your tail off, yet you actually make less than the average American does yearly. Now, take into perspective, perhaps a professional boxer: they may risk their lives, but it's for our entertainment, not for our safety. When they are done wrestling, they go back to their five star hotels and eat gourmet food. They train, and yes, they may have worked hard to get to where they are, but they're out here making millions per fight, which is way more than what the average American makes. Look closer, should an entertainer really get paid such a profound amount for one fight, rather than those who work to…

Some kids grow up with the love of different sports from their childhood. It maybe soccer, football, basketball, or even golf; whatever it might be, it becomes a part of their childhood memories. In fact, they might even take the dream to high school or maybe even college. If it is not a profession you should not get paid. First, a Student-Athlete and the word student always come first. Another reason would be that paying every college student that decide they want to a sport would start money allocation. Lastly, it is not a job it is more of a privilege.…

Does $5.15 million per year sound like a lot? Yes, this is an average NBA basketball players annually wage. This may sound like a lot of money but many people say the military should make this much too. This is not possible. Our military gets paid from tax income of the country. The United States gets $3.7 trillion in income tax. If you divided that among all the soldiers and pay them what pros get paid, this is how much it would be. It would be 7.8063324e+12, that's a lot. My main three reasons for thinking pros should get paid more than soldiers are not enough money, just as much training, and they get paid from different sources. Athletes get paid from millions of fans ,and military gets paid from the United States defense budget.…

Student-Athletes who are recruited to play a college sport are going in with one goal, to play their sport professionally by being the best player they can be. Unfortunately only about 3% percent of NCAA athletes in their respective sport go on to play professionally. The other 97% spend hours and hours of their precious time practicing on the field all for no future in that specific field of work. Actually according to Forbes, Marc Edelman reports “student-athletes work 3 and a half more hours a week than a typical american worker”(Forbes) If an NCAA athlete spends over 40 hours a week practicing their game, then they are working the same amount of hours as people who are in full employment. These hours are spanned over practices, training, games traveling, attending classes, and maintaining grades which is important in order to remain on the team and keep their full scholarship. For people that complain about their jobs and only have to work less than 40 hours a week, think about a student athlete whose job is not only intellectually demanding but brings them to the limits of their physical endurance as…

Professional athletes today are being paid big bucks, and many of the athletes are being reckless with that money. Should college athletes have to go to class? This is a very debatable question that many Americans have opinions on. As athletes reach the end of their high school career, they usually know if they are going to continue to play sports in college. Some college athletes know they are going to leave school early to pursue their dream as a professional. The NCAA ( National Collegiate Athletic Association) does not want athletes to coast through college until that time comes.…
