Argumentative Essay About Pennies

“ A penny for your thoughts” is a saying that isn't commonly used in my generation, but the saying might go away because the government is thinking about taking the penny away. Many people believe the penny is worthless and should be removed, and they are right. The penny today rarely gets used and costs more to create the penny then its value. Have you ever looked into a wishing well? Well if you have you would have noticed that people only really throw pennies into the well. Many people only use pennies as coins to throw in wishing wells. “The canadian finance minister agrees that the penny is used very little he stated “Pennies take up to much space on our dresser at home.” A persuasive government brochure put it this way “ We often store them in jars, throw the, away in water fountains, or refuse them as change” (penny wise, stommer 2). Both of these people tell us that many people don't really care about the penny. People refuse them as change, they are refusing free money!
They believe this because they believe people will not donate as much because they don’t want to give up their nickels, dimes and quarters. “As Michael cooper, an eighth grader, said “If you would have asked me for my quarters I would have said ‘no’ because I use them for video games. Pennies don't really matter much, so I was happy to give them to someone that could use them” (Give a penny, ted 1). Although pennies help with fundraising you can always ask for nickels instead, plus nickles also add up very quickly. If we take away the penny then we could save over 27.4 million dollars, and a portion of that money could go to fundraisers and foundations. As of now you can see how even the smallest change like taking away the penny can have a big impact on how much money our country can
