An interesting weekend
I spend most of my weekends either with my family members watching television the entire day and play football in the evening or go for a sleepover at my friend, Karim's, house. In fact, as long as my memory stretches, I have been spending my weekend in this rather unexciting manner until last weekend.
That weekend, I was in Karim's house and was introduced to is cousin Jamal. The latter hails from Kelantan and very vivacious personality. He was full of energy, enthusiasms and a bit of a dare-devil, as they say. I took an immediate liking to him. Upon hearing of our boring weekends playing football and later adjourning to our favorite mamak stall for a late night supper, Jamal suggested e do something different. he is an accomplished trekker as well as a hiker. When he found out about the Air Hitam hill, famous among trekkers, which ahs tracks that reach right up to the summit, he virtually harassed us to accompany him. Both Karim and I are basically couch potatoes and have no enthusiasm for such a sport. But we did not want to disappoint Jamal and reluctantly agreed to go hiking with him.

But it turned out to be the most interesting weekend I ever had. i did not live to regret it ! It was a Sunday and the three of us were dressed in our hiking attires, much to the surprise and amusement of Karim's parents. we told them that their perspective of us as lazy bones and unadventurous would change forever. They smiled indulgently. we packed a few bottles of mineral water and some sandwiches.

The famous Air Hitam trekking area was fantastic ! There were many joggers and fitness buffs as well as tourists who converge there every day. There were clear racks that would enable trekkers to reach the summit without getting lost. In fact, at certain points, there are stalls and rest areas where one can even sit down for a light meal and drink. we did not make any stop as we were determined to reach the summit. The mountain was not too high and thankfully the dry weather

In the article, Anatoli Boukreev (Responds to Krakauer), Anatoli Boukreev disputes the topic of his actions on May 10, 1996. He claims that his actions and decisions were to the best of his ability on the day of Mount Everest. Boukreev believes Krakauer’s evaluations were impaired by the high altitude, therefore he defends himself by discussing the three questions that were raised by Krakauer. One argument he made was of his experience, Boukreev has been climbing mountains for over 20 years. Within those years he has summited Everest three times, summited mountains 8,000 meters twelve times, and summited seven of the world's fourteen mountains (which were over 8,000 meters) all without supplementary oxygen. In the article “Into Thin Air”…

Further analysis, makes it become obvious that all the clients stated or did something that made contradictions with something else they did or said. The guides can easily be questioned for the tragedy that happened in 1996 after having contradictions that lead up to situational irony while ascending Everest. Many of the guides contradictions even connected to a situation of irony, this representing how all the guides play a role in what happened on Everest May 10, 1996 and how one should always keep their word, don’t overexert themselves, and always follow one’s instructions, especially if guiding an expedition on…

So it began, and the two men hiked side by side through the rough terrain. Words and laughter traveled through the wind every so often, but it was mostly the company of another person that kept each man hopeful. The day grew old and the sun sank into the horizon. Stars poked little twinkling holes into the dark blue sky above Mount Kilimanjaro. Two miles until a rest break seemed like a lifetime to Francis, but he remained motivated by Nick climbing over rocks and through the patches of snow. In the distance large boulders lay stacked one by one on top of eachother like an enormous wall keeping them from getting further up the…

My feelings of those weekends use to be that they were boring, yet thinking back now I can feel that those weekends were rich in family tradition and were a lot of fun. We would tell scary stories while we were all gathered around a warm campfire on a crisp night, eating smores after a long day of swimming and fishing in the lake water. Waking up the next morning to the smell of breakfast being cooked by our mothers and grandmother on an open fire pit. Later on we would all gather to play an exciting game of baseball. The smell of the baseball diamond clay, the cheering from my elderly family watching on and the little kids saying that they can’t wait until they were old enough to play. These days truly were wholesome fun that I will never forget.…

The degree of loyalty and teamwork on Everest amplifies potential hazards to professional guides and their fellow clients. In this expedition, ‘guide’ means a leader of group, thus all guides have responsibility to care clients as individual. However, caring those inexperienced climbers at the 8,000 meters above is too extreme for the guides. Shigekawa who is one of Japanese climber on Everest explains that they “were too tired to help. Above 8,000 meters is not a place where people can afford morality.” However, in that terrible condition, honorable guide such as Rob Hall has to support his client Doug Hansen. When Hall reaches to South summit to support Doug Hansen to achieve his goal, Doug’s oxygen has run out, and they become stranded at the top. Hall could have left Hansen and descend the mountain for survival, “Hall, however wouldn’t consider going down without Hansen.” Hall is trying to protect his clients until the very end and his loyalty could deserve respect as a leader. As a result, extreme loyalty and trusting between guides and clients brings more death on the expedition.…

Sunday nights cars parked all over the front yard. Shouts and laughter everywhere, as I walked towards the back of the house I was greeted by dozens of people. One weekend, seven of us decided to take a trip down from college to my parents' beach cottage in Panama City [Florida]. We were three guys and four girls celebrating our last weekend before beginning our sophomore year. We unloaded the cars and prepared for bed. I did not know then, but it was the last decent night's sleep I would have. We got up the next morning, loaded the cooler with beer and headed for the beach. We laughed, drank and exchanged stories from our freshman year. After finishing an enormous meal, we continued to drink and dance until 1:00 a.m. We had to get back to school early the next day, so we decided to fill the car with gas and get more cigarettes that night. My friend and I hopped in his truck, me in the driver's seat and he in the passenger seat, and headed to an all-night convenience store. We found one store open about two miles down the road. We pulled in, gassed up and headed back to the beach house. It was a straight shot, just a few minutes down a four-lane highway.…
