American Cancer Society Essay

As a part of the National Junior Honor Society, we are required to “make a difference”. There are many ways that we contribute to making a difference to a cause. For example, we can hold more fundraisers like car washes or even bakes sales. In my opinion, I would like to do these activities to help the American Cancer Society. There are different kinds of cancer, but they can all affect many lives. About 3,400 people are diagnosed with cancer each day in the United States. They are left with the idea every day that soon they have to leave their family and friends behind and there is no cure.

We can be able to put a smile on anyone’s face just by visiting him or her. We would be able to show them that there are people who care even if we haven’t known them for a long time or at all. We can also do even the simplest actions for them like running errands, reading to them, or just talking. Another way we can help is by volunteering like driving patients to chemotherapy. We can also have some cancer survivors come to the school and talk about their experiences. We may know about cancer, but we certainly don’t know how it feels for some people. We would find inspiration, hope, and support in these stories about other people whose lives have been affected by cancer. In my opinion, I think more people should learn about cancer. We can hold assemblies to bring more awareness to this delicate subject. We can also bring some information on how to prevent some types of cancer. For instance, we can encourage people to not smoke, stay at a healthy weight, eat right, stay active, and get recommended screening tests. We can inspire people to help and support cancer patients whether by making their own simple fundraiser or donations. Helping the fight against cancer is an opportunity for us to honor cancer
