A Ceramic Vase Analysis

The task of searching for a work of art, in my own home, was not very difficult. My mom is a fan of buying different types of decorations for the house. Whether its vases, frames, wall décor, or table décor. While looking around the living room, I was able to see many different works of art, but there was one that stood out the most to me. My mom has a ceramic vase sitting on one of the tables in the living room. This vase is ceramic and very unique. It has an oval shaped body with a small entrance top. The vase has a scenery on the front of it that consist of a Native American woman sitting down with a fawn on her lap. This scenery is actually not painted directly onto the vase, but is on a relief. The image stands out form the surface of the vase. Compared to the rest of the vases in the living room, this specific one was more old-fashioned. This artwork is a relief sculpture. The vase is viewed frontally, like a painting, since there is a scenery on it. The images on the vase project from the background, and are not just painted onto the vase. It specifically has a low relief since the image projects only slightly from the surface. The overall texture of the vase is smooth including the area where the scene is. The shape of the vase as a whole is geometric and symmetrical, while the scene on it is asymmetrical. Through its different qualities you can see that the theme is tranquility. The image on the front of the vase has plants which suggest a calm nature. Additionally, the Native American woman on the vase is sitting down and that shows that she is not in a hurry or disturbed. She is holding a fawn on her lap and it is just laying there. Sometimes baby animals are insecure and tend to move, but in this image it is not like that. With this in mind, tranquility is also
