QUESTION 2.1: Do you expect heat to flow into or out of the cup into the surrounding atmosphere?
ANSWER: The heat flow is expected to flow out of the cup into the surrounding because temperature of the cup is more than its surroundings.

QUESTION 2.2: Is the difference between the final and initial temperatures, T_f − 푇푖, positive or negative? Explain why you gave the answer you did.
ANSWER: The difference between the final and initial temperatures is negative. This is due to the fact that gas, or liquid, always flows from the region of its higher concentration to the region of its lower concentration. Since the surrounding temperature, at the time of experiment, was 〖17〗^o C which is lesser than 〖23〗^o C, the heat escaped into the surrounding.

The source of the heat for the self-heated can is an exothermic reaction that the user initiates by pressing on the bottom of the can. The can is manufactured as three containers. A container for the beverage surrounds a container of the heating agent separated from a container of water by a thin breakable membrane. When the user pushes on the bottom of the can, a rod pierces the membrane, allowing the water and heating agent to mix. The resulting reaction releases heat thus warms the beverage surrounding it.[1]…
