    Pelican Brief managed to preserve all of the main characters and even most of the minor ones from the book. The heroine and hero of the book‚ Darby Shaw and Gray Grantham‚ were preserved in almost all aspects. The personalities of the major characters are similarly presented in the book and film. As in the book‚ Grantham is solemn‚ polite‚ and inquisitive while Darby becomes very cautious and fiercely protective of her safety.
