AMDG THE RATE OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS The Factor of Carbon Dioxide I. Introduction In this lab‚ the rate of photosynthesis will be measured by manipulating a variable that is needed for the process of photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process by which plants use light energy‚ carbon dioxide‚ and water to produce oxygen and glucose. This release of products provides the necessary nutrients for all forms of life. In water‚ leaves‚ usually float in water due to the gases such as carbon dioxide and

Does caffeine affect heart rate? Background Information: Caffeine is a bitter white crystalline xanthine alkaloid that acts as a psychoactive stimulant drug. A German chemist‚ Friedrich Ferdinand Runge‚ discovered it in 1819. Plants produce caffeine as an insecticide. It is found in varying quantities in the beans‚ leaves‚ and fruit of over 60 plants‚ where it acts as a natural pesticide that paralyses and kills certain insects feeding on the plants. The light reactions of photosynthesis contain two photosystems‚ two electron transport chains‚ and ATP synthase. These parts are embedded in the thylakoid membranes of a chloroplast. The photosystems contain a collection of chlorophyll molecules. Chlorophyll‚ which is the green pigment of leaves‚ absorbs light energy that excites electrons to a higher energy level. Energized electrons from photosystem I are passed down an electron transport chain and added to NADP+ to form NADPH. Electrons from photosystem

Conclusion In this experiment I tested different light intensities. I tested a normal fluorescent light bulb‚ a 100-watt light bulb‚ a 25-watt light bulb‚ and a 15-watt light bulb. I was surprised to find that the control plant grew the most at 135 mm. The 100 watt plant grew the least at 0 mm due to the fact that it fried the plant. The 25 watt plant grew the next highest at 120 mm. The 15-watt light bulb grew tall fastest‚ but then slowed down and stopped at 98 mm you would want to use this

Exercise affects all people differently‚ specifically a person’s heart rate and blood pressure. After exercising your heart rate should increase and your blood pressure should decrease (Blood Pressure Association‚ 2008). The purpose of this lab was to determine which level of exercise would have the greatest impact on affected pulse and blood pressure. In this lab we tested how exercise affected heart rate by testing a random group of people with different body types and exercise levels to see how different

The data found in this experiment supported the initial statement in the hypothesis‚ that blue would have the highest rate of photosynthesis (see Figure 7). The second part of the prediction was refuted by the data‚ as green had a higher rate than both yellow and red. This result seems to go against the experiment‚ however the answer is in Figure 5. When adding green food coloring to the solution (see Methods) dilution also took place. When comparing the wavelength of 540 nm (see Tables 1 & 2) with

Both graphs show how temperature has a great effect on the speed of sulfur formation covering the X on the paper. In this graph‚ it shows the relationship between temperature and the rate of reaction
