Cincinnati Water and Air Pollution Plan April 1‚ 2007 Air and water pollution has long been a concern in the major cities of the United States but our concern should not end there. Other cities and even small towns are suffering from the effects of pollution. Cincinnati‚ Ohio is a city with very poor air and water quality from pollution so a plan is needed to reverse these effects and restore health to the ecosystem and human life. The term air pollution is used quite often‚ but what

Causes of Air Pollution Air pollution is the introduction of chemicals‚ particulates‚ biological materials‚ or other harmful materials into the Earth’s atmosphere‚ possibly causing disease‚ death to humans‚ damage to other living organisms such as food crops‚ or the natural or built environment. The atmosphere is a complex natural gaseous system that is essential to support life on planet Earth. Stratospheric ozone depletion due to air pollution has

is a rotary mechanical device that extracts energy from a fluid flow and converts it into useful work. 1.Steam Turbines 2. Wind Turbines 3. Water Turbines 4. Gas Turbines It is a device that extracts thermal energy from pressurized steam and uses it to do mechanical work on a rotating output shaft. The steam turbine is a form of heat engine that derives much of its improvement in thermodynamic efficiency through the use of multiple stages in the expansion of the steam‚ which results

Reliability Issues – Centrifugal Slurry Pumps Introduction Pumps were probably the first machine ever developed‚ and are now the second most common machine in use around the world‚ out-numbered only by the electric motor. The very earliest type of pump is now known as a water wheel‚ Persian wheel or “noria”‚ consisting of a wheel of buckets that rotates to pick up water from a stream and dump it into a trough. Another early pump was the “Archimedean screw”‚ similar to the modern screw conveyor

Introduction The objective the experiment is to determine the flow rates and pressure head of a single pump and of two identical pumps. In this experiment‚ centrifugal pumps have been used to determine the flow rates and the pressure head. This experiment is conducted in series and parallel to identify the pressure different in both pumps. Centrifugal pump is known as one of the most widely used pumps for transferring liquids. It’s also known as a device to transfer mechanical energy from a prime

Centrifugal pump A centrifugal pump is a rotodynamic pump that uses a rotating impeller to increase the pressure of a fluid. Centrifugal pumps are commonly used to move liquids through a piping system. The fluid enters the pump impeller along or near to the rotating axis and is accelerated by the impeller‚ flowing radially outward into a diffuser or volute chamber (casing)‚ from where it exits into the downstream piping system.[1][2] Centrifugal pumps are used for large discharge through smaller

My experiment was to find out how the type of liquid can affect the amount of drops that can fit on a penny. I used 3 liquids to test my question and they were water‚ rubbing alcohol‚ and vegetable oil. I discovered that water could hold the most drops and vegetable oil and rubbing alcohol could hold about the same amount of drops. My hypothesis was if I use water then it will hold more drops than vegetable oil. My hypothesis was supported by my data. The average number of drops for water was 93

MECHANICAL SEALS FOR PUMPS S. Raghavachari Consultant Chennai Abstract Mechanical seals are pieces of engineering marvel. Process industries could meet today’s stringent environmental pollution regulations through the effective sealing of even the most difficult fluids. This paper describes different kinds of seals‚ their design‚ properties and functioning. Effect of various factors like seal balance‚ face pressure‚ temperature and lubrication on performance of seal and probable causes

of the experiment which is the determination of specific heat of metals. The obtained value of experimental specific heat of metal of aluminum and copper are 0.2152 calg-℃ and 0.0958 cal g-℃ ‚ respectively. It is a must to work faster in performing this experiment because working in an air-conditioned room greatly affects the result of the temperature. For the temperature values‚ the final temperature of mixture should not increase more than 1 ℃ compare to its initial temperature of water/calorimeter

We can sidestep this molecular picture by dealing with objects as a whole‚ and treating the energy transfer as the flow of heat‚ rather than kinetic energy transfer among particles. |Specific Heat for Various Materials | |Material |Specific Heat | | |(J/kg C°) | |Water |4186 | |Aluminum |900 | |Steel
