What Is True Success – Ralph Waldo Emerson Essay Example
What is True Success – Ralph Waldo Emerson

To laugh often and much

To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children.

To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends.

To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others.

To leave the world a bit better,

Whether by a health child,

A garden patch

Or a redeemed social condition;

To know even 1 life has breathed easier.

Because you have lived

This is to have succeeded.

“The highest reward for work is not what you get for it but what you become by it.”

“The only people to get even with are those who have done good to you.’

“The greatest thing in life isn’t never falling, but rising every time you fall.”

“There are essentially 2 things that make you wiser – the books you read and the people you meet.”

Success – Walt Disney

Think Tomorrow – Make today’s effort pay off tomorrow.

Free the Imagination – You are capable of more than you can imagine – so imagine the ultimate.

Strive for Lasting Quality – “Good enough” never is.

Have Stick-to-it-ivity!! – Never give up – ever!!!

Have fun While Achieving Goals – You are never truly a success until you enjoy what you are doing.

CHANGE THE WORLD (Anglican Bishop around 1100AD)

When I was young and free my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world. As I grew older and wiser, I discovered that the world would not change, so I decided to change my country. It too seemed unmovable.

As I grew into my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt, I settled for changing my family and those closest to me. They would have none of it.

And now as I lay on my deathbed I suddenly realize: if I had only changed myself first, then by example I would have changed my family. From their inspiration and encouragement, I would have been able to better my community, city country, and who knows – I may have even changed the world.

The only way to do great work is to love what you do. My father defines that quote. This union, with which my father works for, has helped every single member in my family: father, mother, two brother, and myself. The union that I am referring to is the ‘Sheet Metal Workers’. My dad has been working for this union for roughly eleven years. Although he is a member of the Sheet Metal Workers, the union itself has made a huge impact on our lives.…

However, success is about working hard toward something and achieving a goal. Each and every person should set small goals for themselves on a regular basis. Setting small goals will then lead to setting even bigger goals since you know you can accomplish small ones. Setting goals, compromise, fight, tears, dedication, long hours of hard work, victory. “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If [a person loves what they are doing, they will be successful].” This was the definition of Success according to Albert Schweitzer, a German philosopher. The truth is that this statement can be interpreted differently according to each person’s perspective or goals.
