Ted Talks:
About Ted Talks: From Wikipedia:
TED was conceived by architect and graphic designer Richard Saul Wurman, who observed a convergence of the fields of technology, entertainment and design (that is, "TED"). The first conference, organized by Wurman and Harry Marks in 1984, featured demos of the Sony compact disc, and one of the first demonstrations of the Apple Macintosh computer.[1][13] Presentations were given by famous mathematician Benoit Mandelbrot and influential members of the digerati community, like Nicholas Negroponte and Stewart Brand. The event was financially unsuccessful, however, it took six years before the second conference was organized.[14] From 1990 onward, a growing community of "TEDsters" gathered annually at the event in Monterey, California, until 2009, when it was relocated to Long Beach, California due to a substantial increase in attendees.[15]

Initially, the speakers came from the fields of expertise behind the acronym TED, but during the nineties, the roster of presenters broadened to include scientists, philosophers, musicians, religious leaders, philanthropists and many others.[14]

Kiger draws from several sources to add scientific credibility to his argument, leading his audience to deem his logic/argument as plausible. TED, a worldwide nonprofit organization devoted to spreading ideas began in 1984 as a conference where technology, entertainment, and design, converged into now covering all topics. Kiger inserts a Canadian Social worker, Cliff Nzombato, who wrote his grief on technology using TED. Nzombato illustrates a knowledgeable man who speaks 150 different languages who believes people are afraid of face to face interaction, leading to as Kiger would state “…lonely misanthropes” (Kiger, 2012, para. 1). This furthers Kigers position as his audience adapts to his…

The first Ted Talk was about ben dunlap and his many Hungarian mentors. He mostly focused on Mr. Sandor Teszler and is the current president of Wofford College. His uncle Henry was living under a death threat from the Ku Klux Klan. His uncle did a very Hungarian act by moving his family to Massachusetts so that he could face the Ku Klan Klan alone in South Carolina. Thinking about it, I pretty sure I would do the same thing being in his situation. Hungarians have their own equivalent of the Ku Klux Klan which I found disturbing. Dunlap states that, “Sandor Teszler somewhat resembles Mahatma Gandhi, minus the loincloth and plus orthopedic boots.” He was teased for having two club feet.…

This Ted Ed Talk by Brene Brown discusses the idea of human connection and the power of accepting ones self. Brene discusses her journey to try to dissolve the mystery of vulnerability and the lack of human connection involved with it. Her research concludes that the best way to connect with others is to accept and embrace that you are vulnerable, and your vulnerabilities are a part of you. To be able to connect with others, you must first be able to connect with yourself. Brene discusses that vulnerability is a possible birth place for joy and love, art and beauty. Her research points out that we try to numb our vulnerabilities. However we go further and we numb our gratitude, happiness. We try to numb all of our emotions.…

Whilst heritage tourism has increased awareness of certain minority groups and offered new opportunities, the “interpretation of heritage is often sensitive and controversial Smith (2009 pg 20) conflicts can often arise due to the fact that the ‘approach of heritage organisations is to protect and preserve, while the overriding aim of tourism is to be profitable.’ Boyd (2000 p211) This essay attempts to examine three overriding issues affecting the World Heritage Site Newgrange, “This is Europe’s largest and most important concentration of prehistoric megalithic art. The monuments there had, social, economic, religious and funerary function” Fowler (2003 p98) Whilst there are many potential issues, time and volume constraints associated with this essay resulted in the author limiting the scope of the essay to cover; the conservation preservation of Newgrange, limiting visitor numbers and the stakeholders involved.…
