It was as if everything had frozen,
It was as if everything had frozen,
I dreaded the alarm that woke me up at 6:30 in the morning. It was as loud as a screaming toddler that could be heard for miles. I groggily got out of bed and got ready for my first day of school. It was a weird feeling not putting on a uniform like I had been for the past nine years, but I also enjoyed that freedom. The nervousness became more and more intense as I could closer and closer to campus. When we arrived, I got out of the car, and watched my dad drive off to go take my younger sister to school. There was no going back now; I had no other choice than to walk through those doors. I felt like my throat was in my stomach. I noticed some familiar faces, and I walked towards them. While I was approaching my friends, a senior, facing toward me, walked passed. He must have been at least six feet tall, which was incredibly intimidating for me at just over five feet. I was not used to the fact that I’d potentially have classes with these giants. Additionally, the array of new teachers, and having to learn all of their teaching styles and things they did or did not tolerate was hard in…

The first day of school, as expected, was strange. Students were all excited to see each other after three months. While everyone else was concerned with catching up with friends, all I really wanted was someone to talk to me. Even if it was simply to ask who I was and what I was doing there. Things continued to be awkward during the first few days. Some people stared, and to others, I was invisible, but…
The philosopher, Rudolph Steiner (1861 -1925) founded the Waldorf School after the First World War (1918). The seed of his approach started at this school where he emphasised the importance of developing the child’s imagination and the creative ability. The Steiner approach is child-centred cross curricular and strongly believes in the important use of role models, routines and practical application. The daily routines in the kindergarten are a key aspect to the child’s learning, through adult-lead and child-initiated play. The natural materials and their environment are used to encourage and develop curiosity and imagination. The emphasis on reading and writing does not start until children are seven years old and they work with the child’s personalities.…

Emotions cannot get much more basic than that. As a student, the emotion of fear can be a huge negative impact. This fear can easily turn into a fight or flight situation. It can be fear of a class (like math), fear of failure, or even the fear of just becoming a college student. Fear can be detrimental to our performance in class. If we let the emotions take over and we can quickly lose motivation. We feel first and think later (Hockenbury & Hockenbury. 2014). Fear of failure can quickly take over our emotional state and overwhelm our minds. As this takes over we are no longer productive in our schoolwork and in turn fail because of our emotion –…
Higher and higher we went until we were at the top. I looked all around me and saw beautiful views. I could see the towering buildings and soaring roller coasters all around the park. I flew down like a bird feeling the cold morning air on my face. My hair blew back sending chills through my body. I blasted left right up down and all around my body flopping loosely like a rag doll. The intense speed was overwhelming and I was going too fast to be scared, I was going too fast to think. The ride was over and everyone put out a big sigh of…
Although it really wasn’t a life threatening moment, those times were small things felt like feats that no one could over come. Venturing into the unknown at a smelly chicken barn felt like going into the jungle, an unknown and foreign land. Climbing up an old latter covered in .cobwebs felt like climbing up the steepest…
I have a lot of pictures, most of them are from when I was a toddler and don't remember much of it. So Ill talk about recent pictures I have on my phone and with friends. First snapshot so this was at Pismo Beach and I was riding Quads with my brother and my Dad. I've been there twice so I'll talk about both times and back to the story. So my brother and I saw some guys riding Quads in the Dunes and wanted to go ride some as well and the reason we were there is because we were camping at the beach. So my Dad said tomorrow morning you can walk down and go check the rentals out and see if kids can ride them. Since we were so hyped about it we went and when we left we found out that we could ride it. Also that the rental office was a few miles down so we turned around and went back to camp So we drove on down and found out that we had to take a test to ride them. So we took the test and passed and we got our permit and went to go ride. We went to ride and the snapshot was me taking a selfie with my awesome helmet on. So we are going speeding on the sand which is so awesome! With the wind in your face and the speed it's just amazing and you should probably try it if you like speed. So we…
I was sitting in my white chair with a big knot in my stomach. A bright light beam of excitement shot through my quivering body. Today was the day I had been looking forward to almost all year. The day I was finally graduating from the middle school; the place that I was forced to survive for two tedious years of my life. I was getting out and moving on.…
I believe this photo was taken near the end of my 5th grade year. I was the first person to get there picture taken because it was in alphabetic order and I was always first. I just imagine the frown on my face about to get it taken.…

There are many ways in which emotions can change our state of motivation at any given moment. There are many theories and models that help explain why people are motivated to do the things they do, whether it is at work, school, or just at home with children. However, in some way, they are applicable, and make it easier to understand why humans do what they do. There are two different models being examined today, and the achievement motive as well as the arousal theory will be applied.…
I observed Lil M in his own surroundings. Lil M is an average size eight almost nine year old. Very nicely dressed in matching outfit with his long curly hair in a ponytail. There are no other children in the home. As I watch Lil M he watches me watch him and asks me what I am doing. I tell him I am taking notes on how a young boy plays and interacts with his surroundings. Lil M tells me that sounds boring and gos into his room to play his video game.…
