On Sunday April 7 , 2013 I attended the Junior Recital for Michelle Ellison (soprano) and Rachel Stanton (piano) at Oberlin College & Conservatory. Coming to my second show at Oberlin College I really didn’t know what to expect this time around. On this nice day at Oberlin College I observed many students outside playing their instruments and various groups outside singing in circles enjoying the weather. I could tell that these students were very passionate about music. Inside of the conservatory building the recital was held inside of the Kulas Recital Hall. This was my first time entering a room that was made specifically for musical recitals. The hall wasn’t too big but it was large enough to fit a nice sized crowd in a narrow room.…

Music is a big part of people’s lives and it can be accessed so easily. People can hear music anywhere they go on their phones. Many people like to listen to music whenever they are doing other tasks. Others feel that the music distracts them from the work they are performing. In my opinion, I do not like listening to music when I am working on certain tasks that require thinking or concentration because do not concentration. I love listening to music in my free time. If there is music on while I am doing a task, then I am more likely to be paying attention to the music than concentrating on the task. When I listen to music, I like to pay attention to the lyrics even though I already know them word by word. Don’t you want to find out whether…

A barbershop quartet came into our classroom to perform for us, and it was honestly one of the best things I’ve ever experienced. I was surprised when they walked through the door because I was not expecting to see anything like that in MU 100. I could tell by their matching horse vests that it was going to be a fun and exciting hour. When they began to sing, I was beyond impressed and intrigued by how well they sounded and how they were able to blend their voices so well.…

    How to Listen to Music

    • 263 Words

My argument is on how to listen to music. I agree with some of points on how to listen to music that they wrote in our text book. For example that music is eternal, infinite and ideal, also that it does not express the passion, love , or the longing for this or the longing for someone. I feel music back in the time of the Greeks and the Egyptians was or should have been full of emotion, because of all the classical life experiences that molded civilized society today. There stories speak of how it was to live back in those days so naturally I feel their music should have reflected the same type of emotion too. There should have been songs about great battles won and the love they left behind to fight for their nation and for their children. They should also mention about the great love affairs in their songs. The musical instruments gave a feeling that they lived harmonious together with free love like in the 1970’s. The Harp a musical instrument from those times that is shaped like a heart gave off a wonderful also peaceful sound. I pictured when this harp let out music everyone was lying around by the public baths feeding each other grapes and making love. How they listened to their music in my opinion was a reflection on how they lived their life’s sort of regal above anything petty. I am in full agreement on how they lived there and how they expressed their musical…

    Musical Analysis

The first piece I chose was Frédéric Chopin’s Prelude in E-Minor (op.28 no. 4). It was performed by Aldona Dvarionaite (2009). Chopin was a composer in the Romantic period. This is a sad piano piece. Chopin wrote primarily for the piano. The piece range was almost monotone in nature. The sound was in scale rising and lowering using the same melody throughout the piece. The tones were kept uniform repeating over and over again. I found this piece of music one dimensional. It was dark and depressing in nature. It is not music that I would seek out to relax and enjoy.…
