Liars: Lie and Big Whopper Essay Example
Three Different Types of Liars

At one time or another everyone has told a lie of some sort. Society has The Occasional Liar, The Frequent Liar, and The Compulsive Liar. Lying can be devastating. It hurts not only the person being lied to, but also the person telling the lie. Many of us aren’t even aware of all the lies we tell.

Most of us are occasional liars. We are not happy about lying but don’t want to admit to doing something wrong or having the embarrassment of an unhappy situation. We might lie to our boss about being late to work, or to a teacher about being late to class. We might lie to our parents about not drinking, smoking, and sex. The occasional liar is not used to lying and will think carefully and plan the lie so it will seem more believable.

The frequent liars constantly are telling lies on a regular basis. These people are not like the occasional liar they lie so much they might forget what has been said and contradict themselves. Most of these liars show signs that a lie has been told. They will try to cover their tracks to make sure the lie makes sense. This person may not have many friends because of all the lies told.

Being the center of attention is the main focus of the compulsive liar. These liars tell a lie when the truth would be better. The people are addicted to lying and cannot stop. They don’t mind creating big whopper lies in order to stay in the spot light of attention. The compulsive liar when caught will make up another lie to cover the first one told. These people have almost no friends.

Whether you encounter an occasional, frequent, or compulsive liar you might have a hard time trusting that person

Lies are told around the world multiple times during the day. Everyone sitting in this room has probably once today, said a lie. Sometimes lying is understandable for someone’s protection but sometimes the truth is essential to the person. There are multiple things people say in a day that are seen as lies such as “That outfit looks really good on you!,” “It wasn’t me!” and “I’ll be with you in a few minutes.” Honestly is not always the best policy because in the end it does not make everything better. The debate over the acceptability of lying is a complicated one. Some feel that it is morally wrong and only ever worsens a situation. Others feel that it is acceptable in cases where feelings could be hurt, or if a person’s self-esteem may be lowered. However, there are instances in which lying happens simply to avoid the consequences of a person’s actions, and most would agree that it is morally wrong. Instead of going back and forth between “lying is wrong” and “lying is okay sometimes,” a better use of our time would be learning to improve our honesty with ourselves and with the people around…
