Expositary and Persuasive Essay Example Topics
Which of the topics below are appropriate for an expository essay? Why do you think so?

Which of the topics below are appropriate for a persuasive essay? Explain what differentiates an expository essay from a persuasive.

Legalization of marijuana

Boston Tea Party

Endangered species

Enforcing school dress codes

Gun control

Gay Marriages do not take away from Traditional Marriages

The three topics that are highlighted in yellow, to me, are appropriate for an expository essay. Why, because the Boston Tea Party was an event in American history that stated facts. The Boston Tea Party was something that we all discussed in our American history class. To some it was touchy, and to other it was something that we had to learn about. Two Endangered species are something that we still talk about to this day. There are so many different animals in the world itself that are becoming endangered due to a growing economy. Lots of the endangered species are endangered because of people taking them out of their natural environment. Three, Gun control is something that is talked about faithfully in today’s government. There was a time when gun control was not an issue, because people use guns for unnecessary reason as they do today. The things people say about guns today are the facts, too many guns are killing too many, and being used for the wrong reasons. All three of these topics are good examples of expository essays.

Now the three topics highlighted in turquoise, God knows, are persuasive essay topic. Come on now, Legalization of Marijuana. Now you know for yourself it’s going to take a hell of a lot of persuading to for them to legalize marijuana. Maybe if they could found a way to tax it, they would. Too many people use it as a recreational drug for it not to be legalized. Some people say it helps them focus better when studying, society stated that it bad for you and cause damage to your brain cell, and Doctor’s use it for some of the patients. The

    1. Introductory Paragraph: Begin your expository essay by raising the audience’s interest in the introductory paragraph with an anecdotal example (or another hook to get your reader interested). While using anecdotes is not the only method of building an introductory paragraph, it is fundamentally easy and an effective strategy for connecting with your audience. In the very last sentence of your introductory paragraph, state your expository thesis. Usually expository thesis statements, like the sample topics above, are expressed in the form of an opinion/claim. Yours should be stated in the form of an opinion/claim as well.…

The audience I would try to reach in regards to an alternate version of my persuasive essay would be the governments of the world that have taken advantage of America’s passivity in the world, such as China and Iran. By having them as my audience, it would send a message that America is not going to be a footstool anymore, and that whomever tries to step on or over will be dealt with accordingly. By seeing my work, maybe it would prevent them from taking specific courses of action because they too believe Donald Trump will bring peace through strength. While it could have the opposite effect on the intended audience in its persuasiveness, it would nonetheless get them out of their comfort zone and possibly rattled. I just hope that it does not go in the opposite direction intended, and create a situation where a country bans my alternate version, saber rattles America itself, or boycotts American products or people. They would find my work in multiple mediums, from underground newspapers, internet ads, and at film festivals.…

In NASA, the Mars science lab rover is acknowledged, over a budget at 2.5 billion dollars. Although Obama’s Fiscal plan for 2013 would incise NASA’s funds from 587 million dollars to 360 million dollars, no quantity of money is worth Mars exploration. Mars is still merely a rocky surface in the midst of no indication of water or active geology. Space exploration is exceptionally expensive to the citizens of the United States; the government could unquestionably use this money to better the country where the people live. Exploration costs millions of dollars which is completely unnecessary to provide the NASA space program.…
