INTRODUCTION
Should mothers choose to raise a family over a career? Women make choices to have a career and raise a family. Some women have no choice and have to work. Society has to respect those women. Some women “never have to work a day in their life” and have chosen to be stay-at-home moms. Society needs to understand these struggles and have compassion for their choices. I. BODY A. PROS 1. Children of working couples tend to become more responsible and more independent compared to those staying with either of the unemployed parent. 2. Your contribution to your family income may not monetarily be a difference but will definitely add a great level of satisfaction to you. B. CONS 3. The child’s character does not depend on its parents only, his caregivers and peers also play an important role. 4. It is a question of having enough to buy the basics C. Potential ethical, moral or legal issues 5. Women who have chosen careers don’t always look to expand their horizons, it comes down to a question of survival. a. Homes cost more than they use to. The increase has become a family problem and mothers need to work for the family to afford home prices. (1) b. The amount of the average family budget earmarked for the mortgage has increased 69%, at the same time the father’s income has only increased 1%. (1) 6. Women make only 77.5 cents for every dollar that men earn. This figure comes from data on the 2003 census. Despite this gap, many economists feel that the gap between pay for men and women is due to different personal choices men and women make about personal fulfillment, child rearing and hours at work.
