A Glimpse of DREAMLAND
A glimpse of DREAMLAND
As I walk along the white sand beach, I can see crystals in the sea, and the dancing waves invite me to the deep. Enchanting greens of the field are captivating as they cover the land. I can smell the flowers as they decorate the site. Pretty houses are built everywhere. And the villagers are happy with their surroundings. Food is not a problem because nature gives plenty, so worry is not in their vocabulary. The place is truly a paradise, a dreamland where joy untold prevails.

Dreamland is an ideal place where everything is beautiful. However, in the case ofDreamland, Rosario, Cavite, it is the contrary. When my group went there to conduct a field research, we really witnessed the poverty of the people living there. It is a depressed community along the coastal shore of Cavite. Fishing is the major livelihood of the people there. And if the income is still not enough for their expenses, they even scavenge near a dumpsite in order to survive. Nevertheless, one thing really moved me while we were there- the kindheartedness of the Caviteños. They have shown me the true meaning of humanity and hospitality. As we approached each family for an interview, nobody allowed us to just stay outside. We were warmly welcomed and guided inside everyone’s humble home. They were always saying sorry for their places.Yet for me, it is not their places that matter but their hearts that make their places beautiful. Even their barangay officials really accompanied us in our whole day research.
They willingly toured us around the area. They also gave us dried fish before we go back to
Manila. We should be the ones who are supposed to give them tokens of appreciation, but we ended up receiving from them. It may not be the kind of paradise that we imagine, but with the joy, love, and peace in the neighborhood, it surpasses our pre-conceived dreamlands.

Material treasures of the world they may not possess, but they appreciate life even for what we consider as ‘less’. Surprisingly, they can make and get the most out of them.

Thank you Dreamland people!

In this chapter, Frye writes about the two different perspectives in literature- the vertical and the horizontal. There is a vast difference between the two perspectives and literature is commonly only written in the vertical. The two perspectives can be pictured as a compass on a map. From north to south is where the vertical perspective lies and from east to west is where one would find the horizontal. The north and south on the compass represents the top and bottom half of literature. "The top half of literature is the world expressed by such words as sublime, inspiring, and the like, where what we feel is not…

The sand scorched our feet like steaks on a fiery grill. I had brought the Rock along to join me for a surfing lesson. We snatched our wetsuits and our boards and hit the waves. The ocean water sends a chilling sensation through my body. The polar water feels like a steamy shower after a long day, calming and relaxing. The waves are monstrous and intimidating, however, I seem to ride them effortlessly like I had done it a million times before. I dash past the Rock and under a curling wave. In the waves there are vividly colored fish swimming in schools. The water is so translucent that one can easily see the ocean floor, and the coral and seaweed that lay on…

As you approach the seaside, you are captivated by its beauty. The breathtaking panoramic view is enough to make your knees go weak. The bright, round sun blinds you as it appears rising and climbing like a yellow lemon on the horizon. The radiant rays of the neon sun reflect off of the untouched white sand that covers the ground as far as the eye can perceive. These perfectly placed grains of sand shine like flawlessly polished diamonds. Emerging from the pale sand are enormous jagged, kaki colored palm tree trunks that stand as tall as skyscrapers. Oversized, razor-sharp, emerald leaves hang from the tops while swaying back and forth in the light ocean breeze. The ocean water sparkles and glitters playfully like twinkling stars flickering in the night sky. The sights alone are enough to soften your soul with tranquility.…

The, enclosed, beach is silent. The bright ball blinds you as it emerges; it rises like a yellow lollipop on the distant horizon. Crashing against the shore, small waves wash the night's debris onto the land. Untouched golden sand covers the floor as far as your eyes can see. Soothing, a gentle sea breeze rustles through your hair.…

Milton opened up the right of divorce in an age when divorce was unmentionable in society and prohibited by nearly all denominations and religions. The only ground for a lawful divorce in Milton’s time usually involved some sort of sexual incompatibility due to unlawful relations outside of the marriage. John Milton’s discussion of marriage and gender relations in “Paradise Lost” can be critically analyzed through his portrayal of the purpose of marriage in “Doctrine of Discipline and Divorce”. Having read Paradise Lost through the understanding of Milton in his prose work, titled the “Doctrine of Discipline and Divorce” allows for a deeper understanding of his misogynist views and the disposition of Adam and Eve in “Paradise Lost”.…

As I stroll along I can feel the soft smooth sand beneath my feet. I am taken in by the calming atmosphere that encircles me. I close my eyes, letting myself absorb the blistering rays of the sun on a scorching summer day. I am comforted by the sounds of the ocean; the rhythmic pounding of the waves suppressing all of my worries. I look into the cloudless blue sky and see the perfection of life. I often want to be like a seagull, drifting endlessly in the wind without a care in the world. As I sit in my chair I can see all the sights of summer. Children building sandcastles along the ocean’s edge, to my right I observe an elderly couple indulged in a good book. I am soon at the point where my skin can no longer stand the ruthless heat of the blazing summer sun. I run as fast as my feet can carry me toward what my body sees as a endless pool of crystal blue water. I dive into the crashing waves head first. The shock of the frigid water takes my breath away leaving me momentarily stunned. However I quickly recover as my body adjusts to the cold water. Floating peacefully among the waves, I am unaware of the approaching waves that are soon to break over me. Crash! A outrageous wave has just taken me over. Its force knocks me to the sandy bottom of the ocean. I am rejuvenated and awakened as I am carried back to the shore. Exhausted, I return to my peaceful spot on the beach. I quickly find myself once again blazing under the warmth of the summer sun.…

A Tribute to My Town When I remember the days that saw my early childhood spent on the green shores of a murmurous lagoon; when I remember the coolness, delicious and refreshing, that on my face I felt as I heard Favonius croon; when I behold the white lily swell to the wind’s impulsion, and that tempestuous element meekly asleep on the sand; when I inhale the dear intoxicating essence the flowers exude when dawn is smiling on the land; sadly, sadly I recall your visage, precious childhood, which an affectionate mother made beautiful and bright; I recall a simple town, my comfort, joy and cradle, beside a balmy lake, the seat of my delight. Ah, yes, my awkward foot explored your sombre woodlands, and on the banks of your rivers in frolic I took part. I prayed in your rustic temple, a child, with a child’s devotion; and your unsullied breeze exhilarated my heart.…
