A Call and Anointing to Preach

Theology of ministry

A Call and Anointing to Preach I think what we read this week is very beneficial for somebody who wants to go into full-time professional ministry as a preacher or a teacher. There were tons of gold nuggets in the reading assignment this week from our text book. It really can help you define a philosophy of ministry in to knowing you are called to be a preacher or teacher of the Word of God. In the case of my own story, I was called into youth ministry and now 14 years later I am becoming a church planter and Lead Pastor. The material the author talks about is very practical in finding out your call to ministry and how the Holy Spirit anoints you for such a time as this to preach the word of God. I have already been doing the things the author talks about in the last 14 years of my calling into ministry. I really liked what the author had to say about finding you’re calling and anointing through the Holy Spirit on page 67 of the text this week. It says “Therefore, the metaphor of the Pastor as preacher is best employed within the context of the Pastoral work within a parish where it is clear that the preacher is also Pastor.”(Willimon, 2002, Pg.67) I think the first step the author talks about is getting a divine confirmation from God and knowing that you know that you know he has called you to a lifetime commitment in servant hood to people from all walks of life. I think you need to spend ample amounts of time evaluating what it is God saying to you and are you really called for such a time as this. Once you have answered this you need to move forward in preparing yourself for a lifetime of ministry commitment. I did this when I went into full-time youth ministry. I did it again when I felt called to be a church planter almost two years ago. The second thing is that you really do need to be still and let God reign in your life and in answering the

Scripture has so many fulfilling riches that are missed because preachers fail to spend time in the scriptures, but the scripture alone is a wonderful place to begin to seek sermonic ideas. One of the biggest down falls of preachers is that they don’t spend enough time in the scripture. It is hard to say that preaching comes from the scripture, but the preachers don’t have a firm understanding of what is found in…

Lori, I truly enjoyed your interview response on Reverend Jennifer Beagle. I can agree with her statement on developing a ministry, “It’s a battle worth fighting, suit-up, buckle-up, and don’t doubt that God is in everything. Find God in every circumstance and view people as creations”. (Beagle, 2015) Just as the varying parts of the human body need each other to best accomplish its work, so the Body of Christ needs to function interdependently, like a team. (Rom. 12:4-8; 1 Cor. 12:12-27) God so designed the Church that it "grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work". (Eph. 4:16) Christian leaders are servants. Jesus specifically addresses servant leadership…

At Justified By Faith Baptist Church in Indianapolis, IN, I, Daniel H. Weems, Sr. serve as an Associate Pastor. We are a new church plant about seventeen months old and have around fifty active members. I have been asked to organize and implement a soul care ministry within the church. My overarching goal for ministry is to restore my fellow man when he is overtaken in a fault (Gal. 6:1), fully knowing that all mankind have missed the mark at times (Rom. 3:23); I do my best to remind…

Conscious of their own defects, they endeavor to improve themselves, but the absence of a guide, their need of books, and their scanty time, all prevent their making progress. These are the men whom the Pastor’s College welcomes… The College aims at training preachers rather than scholars. To develop all the faculty of ready speech, to help them understand the word of God, and to foster the spirit of consecration, courage, and confidence in God, are objects so important that we put all other matters in secondary position. If a student should learn a thousand things, and yet fail to preach the gospel acceptably, his College course will have missed its true design (Spurgeon 2011, Location 63 of…

How can I say that Reading Scripture or Communion are not as influential? Prayer is a direct link to the Father and that is a great gift. Being able to openly speak to the Creator of all is amazing and therefore, yes, most influential. However to say that the Scripture or Communion are not as vital is not any easy thing for me to say. Both have brought me closer to Jesus; both…

    My Philosophy of Ministry

The first part of my philosophy of ministry is to teach believers in the knowledge and the ways of Jesus Christ. Every member in the church has gifts. They need to understand their gifts and if you have the gift to teach, be trained in the work of the ministry. Teaching God’s people to do the work of the ministry takes place through the teaching of Scripture (2 Tim. 3:16-17).…

This mission reminds us that for the Kingdom of God to continue to break in, individual lives need to be changed, while being motivated and equipped for transformation. Our Book of Discipline offers this cue: “God has used our church to save persons, heal relationships, transform social structures, and spread scriptural holiness, thereby changing the world.” When we change lives and introduce people to the all-loving nature of God, we indeed transform the world. When making disciples, the Church welcomes people into community, educates them on God’s call for Christians, and equips them toward using their spiritual gifts to serve as change agents playing a role in bringing about the Kingdom of…

When I was still in high school, I felt God calling me to preach. Writing sermons is a lot easier for me than it is writing about anything else. When I start a sermon, I start with a scripture. I think about it and wonder what God is trying to tell me through it. By writing it down, I can decide how to best explain the scripture to others as it has been revealed to me.…

Ministry is a loosely defined term. A.W. Tozer once said, “It is not what a man does that determines whether his work is sacred or secular, it is why he does it.” This is at the heart of “knowing ministry.” Teaching is a sacred act. Destroying ignorance is a sacred mission entrusted to people of good will. The reason I decided to pursue this field education opportunity because Dr. Ewing understands this concept.…
