Year round school persuasive essay
Persuasive Essay

Imagine a way where your children could be relieved of their stress that they gain throughout the year, be given more breaks and not lose any knowledge over the summer! By going to the year round school system your children can achieve all of these things and also make higher test scores! It is better to have year round school as opposed to tradition school because when having year round school schools take more frequent breaks throughout the year. These more frequent breaks cause kids to have less stress and without the huge summer break you are not losing the knowledge that you have already learned throughout the year.
By going to the year round school system there is no longer the long three-month summer break. However without the summer break it allows for schools to make for more frequent, weeklong, breaks throughout the year. Some schools, instead of taking breaks throughout the year, only go to school for three or four days a week to even out the time that summer break had given kids before.
Having a traditional school year and less school per week will cause kids to have less stress that everyday school brings to them now. The stress level from kids now going through a traditional school year is at an all time high. The stress levels of children would drop if there were more frequent breaks throughout the year or if the students only had to go to school for 3 to 4 days a week.
In traditional schools where you have a three-month long summer break children lose the knowledge that they have gained throughout the year over that period with no learning. In schools throughout the nation that have a yearlong school program the test scores and grades of those students are significantly higher than those in a traditional school system. When going into a year round school system you are not having any lengthy time off from learning so you are not losing any knowledge that you already have gained.

Over all public schools, there are only 4% that operate on a year round calendar. In that 4% there are 2 million students learning under a year round basis. Besides, year round schedules mitigate education loss from the previous school year. It also tarnishes the tradition of summer break, according to “Should You Give Up Summer Vacation?” by Laura Kelsey. Evidently the year round calendar is a prime solution to alter failing grades and help struggling students catch up. For instance, some students are overwhelmed with work and drama that occurs in school. With that in mind, year round schedules have more spread out recesses eradicating the overwhelming school environment. Simultaneously, year round calendars lessen memory loss between long breaks. Thus helping students retain and understand their curriculum. Lastly, studies show that American students are less proficient in academic topics.…

One of the major benefits of year-round school is that it aids students in a way that they can increase their overall grade. Students are less likely to forget what they have previously learned in school due to the lack of large breaks in the school year. Most importantly, there is more time. More time for school means more time can be devoted to each unit or section of material a teacher is covering. Less pressure to learn information in two weeks or even a month can help students apply their new knowledge to the long-term memory and gives more time for student to comprehend ideas in a more complex manor.…

Frequent breaks in the school year allow students and teachers to recharge themselves, be more active in class, and have higher academic achievement. Students and teachers can get tired if they have ongoing class for ten months without a break big enough to recharge. Some of the illnesses that people could have fought off when they were fully rested could make them sick and make more people absent (edweek.org). Absences due to illnesses can be sustained by year round school because of the time to recharge and can raise their academic achievement by having more time in class than when they would usually be sick. Although summer vacation may be fun, having frequent breaks in the school year can help students retain their knowledge and have higher academic achievement (nea.org). Retaining knowledge because of shorter summer breaks…

Would a year-round school schedule improve students’ academic performance? There are many debates on whether schools should extend their educational calendar to a full year. While year-round school schedules have their share of benefits, there are also negative outcomes. People often claim the more the better, but what really matters is the quality, not quantity, of education. Year-round schooling should not be organized because students may develop health issues, wouldn’t be prepared for college, and students may miss out on other opportunities during the summer.…

With the year-round schedule students receive the same amount of time away from school. Students are still required to go to school for 180 days, but instead of summers of they receive a short break every nine weeks. This proves that students receive the same amount of opportunities for family time when compared to the traditional school schedule. With year-round schooling students have the same amount of time off, but with the schedule they can spend more time with family throughout the year and not just in the summertime. Summer breaks can cause “summer slide” which is the decline of academic skills and knowledge over a long vacation. This shows that going to year-round school won’t make you forget over a long vacation. This also shows that if you don’t forget over a long vacation that you can improve your academic skills since you don’t have long breaks. One of the major points for year round schooling is that students would learn more because they would be in the classroom more often. This however, has been proven to be false, as a 2007 Ohio State University study stated that students in year-round schools do not learn more than their peers in traditional nine-month schools (Long). Schools with a year-round system often use it in an attempt to eliminate the lose of knowledge that can occur over the summer months, but this can also happen to students in year-round schools, as some have breaks that last over a month. This can be more than enough time for students to forget what they have learned. While the year-round schooling is often incorporated to help accommodate more students in schools that struggle with overcrowding, the change ends up making both teachers and parents struggle more than they would in a normal schedule. Year-round schooling would mean that the teachers would have to constantly be at work teaching a class of students, all year round, with little to no breaks. Parents would also have to be running their children around a lot more, especially during the summer…

According to Districts Weigh Pros and Cons of Year-Round Schools by Luke Towler, “One of the main reasons for switching to year-round schools is to improve retention rates, there is no concrete proof that students improve academically” (Towler 2). This means that most change to year round schooling to have more time to learn and remember, but there is no proof that year round schooling helps students academically. Also, according to Districts Weigh Pros and Cons of Year Round Schools by Luke Towler, “Students really do forget or unlearn things they have learned when too much time off is given between classroom sessions” (Towler 3). This is trying to explain that students in year round schooling forget more during the frequent vacations. Lastly, according to Districts Weigh Pros and Cons of Year Round Schools by Luke Towler, “A study released in 2007 by The Ohio State University, however, found that there are really no differences in learning between students who attend school year round, and those who are on a traditional schedule” (Towler 3). Likewise, kids who have your round schooling do not get a better education but the same type as those who go to traditional…
