First we picked our task as feed the money pig, and decided on our group name as Oink! Oink! Then we brainstormed our ideas and wrote them down. We then wrote our detailed description of our steps from start to finish. Then we completed our materials list to know the materials we got from the teacher and the materials that we would have to bring in. We also completed a list of dates of our project completion goals and testing. Next we began building our Rube Goldberg project. We all bought in the materials we needed for our project along with the ones we got from our teacher. For our first step we set up a small table up on a larger one. Then we taped a Twix box with marble at the top to the small table; we then taped a toilet paper roll to it and used it as a inclined plane. We set ten dominios under it on the table and put a marble at the end of them for our next step. In next step we taped a funnel at the end of the table and set up a mousetrap under the funnel. In our next step we tied a string to the mousetrap and tied the other end to a popsicle stick. We then put the stick on a toilet paper roll, that we used as an inclined plane, and put a golf ball and two marbles at the top of the stick. In our next step we set up another smaller table with two books on it, which were used as tracks for two balls that hit each other. Then we set up playing cards and Jenga blocks to make a track for the ball that falls off the table in our next step. Then in our next step we tied a Jenga block to beads that fall off the larger table. Next we set up a Coke can on a piece of wood used as an inclined plane. We then tied popsicle sticks to the beads and put them under the Coke can for our next step. In our next step we put a piece of wood at the bottom of the inclined plane with the Coke can on it. Then we tied a string to the piece of wood and tied the other end to…

Often, when we think of a t-shirt, not much consideration goes past throwing it on and walking out the door. We discover in The Travels of a T-Shirt in the Global Economy, author Pietra Rivoli conveys the story of a t-shirt she purchased in Florida for just $5.99. Beginning with core element of the t-shirt, she describes the cotton boom in the United States and why we have reigned supreme as the leading cotton producer. She even meets with a Texan farmer who warms your heart from the very beginning of the chapter. Next, the cotton goes on to textile mills and factories, and Rivoli explains the history of the textile industry. With this lesson, she demonstrates how the textile industry boom was a leading contributor of the Industrial Revolution in many countries. From this point, we see the t-shirt waiting to be stitched together and awaiting its entrance into the global economy. Rivoli then outlines how the garment finally enters U.S. franchises through a labyrinth of politics, quotas, slave labor, and activism. After it is purchased, worn, and discarded it enters a completely new market-- the small entrepreneurial clothing market in Africa, which according to Rivoli, is the only true free market. She illustrates how underdeveloped countries finally catch a break by capitalizing on another country’s garbage, ending the t-shirt’s international journey. Fundamentally, this book forces you to ask yourself some very important questions about our history as a nation, the exploitation of slave and labor, and the state of free trade as a whole.…

The next step is very important to a productive process. You have to gather and organize the materials and tools needed to make a quilt. Depending on the sewing method that you’ve chosen you will need the correct needle and thread, embroidering rings, a sewing machine and a quilting rack. The next step is to cut your patterns, be precise. Mark and cut them carefully so that each one is the same size. A common problem that people run into while cutting their material, is ending up with different size quilting pieces. This will make quilting the pieces more difficult and will result in a finished quilt that is not square.…
