I. CASE OVERVIEW

Terry Semel headed Yahoo! as CEO from 2001 until 2007. His goal was to build Yahoo! Site into a self-contained world of irresistible offerings that would grab and keep surfers glued to it for hours at a time. Semel made some progress in getting Yahoo grow again from Timothy Koogle’s chairmanship. Under his leadership, he changed Yahoo!’s old strategies which catered some advantages and disadvantages. Yahoo had significant project acquisitions but on the other hand, there are also more significant projects that were not accomplished that even become frustration of the whole organization and its shareholders.

Yahoo sees their core business as being Yahoo News, Finance and Mail. Yahoo’s search product has suffered considerably, because of expansion into other areas. Yahoo also had falling revenue and decreasing cash flows. Consequently, the shareholders expressed dissatisfaction with Semel’s performance leading him to resign. Yahoo was also compared to its greatest and unbeatable competitor, Google – in terms of capital, manpower, income and more.

Auto-Mart should implement a do-it-for-me business emphasis since most customers would not have the expertise to repair their own cars. However, by adopting the do-it-yourself business approach, the company would focus on supplying retail auto parts to consumers who use their own means to fix their cars. This strategy may mean that if customers do not possess the knowledge and skills to repair their cars, then they would have to incur an extra expense to fix the problem. Moreover, as the company is a newbie, it may not have the budget to establish a do-it-for-yourself workshop that teaches customers how to repair their automobiles, therefore doing it for the client would be more apt.…

USA Today launched in September of 1982 and was considered poor journalism and quickly acquired the nickname “McPaper” (MCartney, 1997). The paper was arranged in colorful four segment outlines that could be easily accessed and read. Even though they received much criticism early on, the paper found its readers and gained momentum especially to the casual reader. USA Today was ahead of it’s time in 1982 and unknowingly deviated from the normal newspaper prior to the onset of the internet age. In doing this, they were already ahead of the game when the internet was introduced. We are now a community of readers that want instant, easily accessible information, written in a manner that summarizes the information, with a layout like the…

In the article “Verizon calls time on Yahoo by buying it” written by Business and finance (2016), Verizon seems to be a savior and a winner, for taking on the brave move to buy Yahoo, in order to save the company further turmoil and decline in e-commerce business success. Former Google executive, Marissa Mayer’s effort to resuscitate the previously great Pioneer of the Internet, failed in the attempt. As smartly noted in Gwartney, Macpherson, Sobel and Stroup’s (2013) text, it is very important that economists in today’s business market, try at best to avoid violation of the ceteris paribus to avoid drawing the wrong conclusion. Although expectations were set high for Ms. Mayer’s…

Observers note that Yahoo still earns most of its money by employing reporters to write stories and salespeople to sell ads, an old-media kind of operation that is hard to run at a profit. Yahoo outsourced web search to Microsoft’s Bing, and in spite of its leadership role in advertising, it has yet to offer much in the hot young market of mobile ads. Shifting from unprofitable, low-growth activities to activities with more potential could lead to significant staff cuts in some areas even as a hiring push continues in others. Still, one former employee sees hope. Geoff Ralston, who worked on Yahoo Mail, notes that EBay…

Many individuals I appreciate in this world, yet for my course project I chose to examine the current CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella. As anybody would know the organization Microsoft is perceived around the world. The reason I picked Satya as my own good example is on the grounds that I see his prosperity as a motivation. I listen to the tech news of the world and I would envision that after Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer passed the light to Satya, years of diligent work and devotion to his organization at long last paid off. Since Satya’s time as CEO (February of 2014) has officially rolled out improvements to Microsoft that is by all accounts in support to the purchaser. Nothing could be superior to anything demonstrating your dedicated clients that you value them by giving them what they need.…
