CHAPTER 6:
1.) Who was Ida B. Wells?
ANSWER: Ida B. Wells was an African-American journalist from Holly Springs. Ms. Ida attended Fisk University and Rust college. Ida was an activist who led an anti-lynching crusade in the United States.
2.) Who was Leonora Wells?
ANSWER: Leonora Barry was born in the County Cork, Ireland. Leonora Barry was the only national officer of the Knights of Labor. She organized women workers in 1886-1890. Leonora furthered the progress of women’s rights.
3.) Who was Frances Willard?
ANSWER: Francis Willard was born in Churchville, NY. Francis was a women suffragist; she was an American educator, temperance reformer. She was the national president of Women’s Christian Temperance union (WCTU) in 1879.
4.) What impact do these photographs have on your understanding of gender roles of American society in the late 19th century?
a.) ANSWER: The impact that these have on my understanding of gender roles of American society in the late 19th century is that they were snotty people who were parts of tennis clubs, they also attended balls with fancy dresses, the woman of this century always had their hair up and never down.

1.) Who was Shige Kushida, and what problems did she face?
ANSWER: Shige Kushida was a 23 year old; she was protestant, western-oriented. Shige was the first women to ever speak in Meiji, Japan, before a mixed audience men and women. She illustrates grand historical processes that reshaped American society at the end of the 19th century.
2.) Discuss the problem of Indian boarding schools.
ANSWER: The problem with Indian Boarding Schools was that Indian children were taken from their families to learn the American culture. These kids were made to stop dressing; speaking, thinking, and believing “like Indians”.
