Write An Essay On Tennis Sectionals
Learning how to make good decisions while in a stressful and intricate situation comes with a lot of practice. You may not want to do something but in the end it could be the best choice. My difficult scenario taught me that it's not always easy to do the right thing but it might be the most ideal, and that communication is very vital! My story starts the week of tennis sectionals. Second semester junior year I was not able to be in the jazz band class; I was in it as an independent study. I would go down to the band room about once a month to practice with the class. It was difficult but manageable. There was an upcoming concert that my teacher had mentioned to me, but that if I didn't feel comfortable playing the music to not go. Flash forward 5 days and it's the big day for …show more content…
We got there and she looked at me and said, “What's the problem?” I replied back saying we needed to talk about tonight. A long conversation started and then she said it. The words that I never wanted to hear, “You WILL be coming tonight. There is no option.”. I was baffled! She can't say that to me, can she? I had to be there for my team. I brought up the fact that she had given me the option last week but she didn't seem to care. I wasn't going to leave my team and not support them. We were facing our rivals who we wanted to beat so bad. I told my teacher that I was going to stay there until the match was over, but she quickly said that she emailed my mother and that she was going to take me back to the school as soon as I was done playing, but she never did email my mom. She had lied. I was so confused. How could I just leave my team? As soon as school ended I immediately called my mother and explained the situation. The whole ordeal was handled terribly. There was no communication involved. My parents were both

The day was hectic, and I was looking forward to meeting the team of organizers after the end of classes to finalize the play schedule. One of the organizers called me the day before and said that there was a change of street play schedule, and the chances are high that we might not get to do the play this year. I was angry; The first thing that came to my mind was my team, which consisted mostly of friends I knew from freshmen year of college who would get disappointed. All the hours of practice would go to waste. There was no next year for most of us since we were graduating, and would not be part of Rotaract anymore.…

On the 9th of November I went to the salsa jazz band concert. This all took place at Miami Dade College Kendall Campus in the Alfred L. McCarthy Hall Auditorium. I arrived at the campus around 7 pm, half an hour before the concert started and parked in the garage. At the garage, I met up with my friend Elizabeth with whom I have for the jazz and pop class. From there we both walked to the auditorium with her brother and waited outside for a bit. As I walked in the first thing that they did was give us the program. The program lists all the songs that were played and included all of the players in the jazz band. The director of the band’s name is Rafael Valencia. I noticed that it was pretty full, which to me meant that it was going to be good performances. My friend and I sat…

When I was in Montessori, my teacher always told me to follow my dreams. Throughout my school years, I always put 100% effort into everything I did so that I could find my dream and pursue it. The Montessori Christmas play, visits to multiple farms, Summit Soccer and Basketball, Knights of the Round Table, and Praise team all helped me find my true passion and led me to being the person I am today. All those years I was searching for my true passion until one day, I found it. My mom handed me a racquet and I was set to follow my dreams.…

Growing up, I was never naturally athletic and very injury prone. Regardless of these issues, I always remained determined and strived to accomplish my goals. As I enter high school one of my main goals was to make the varsity tennis team. During my freshmen year I practiced every day for the first 3 months of school hoping that I could just make the team. Unfortunately I tore a ligament in my wrist for the second time which prevented me from practicing till right before the tennis season started. I ended barely making the JV team which was very disappointing, but it only motivated me for next year. In my heart I knew that I if I was determined enough I could play varsity next year on my own merit. As I progressed through the sophomore year,…

The first time I was ever daunted sitting at a drum kit, was at my first gig with my high school jazz ensemble during my freshman year. It was the night of the Presidents Circle Dinner, an event dedicated to the individuals who donated a substantial amount of money to my school. All the people I had to impress. Not only was I new to playing in front of a crowd but I was also new to playing jazz itself. During the performance of C Jam Blues, the band director pointed at me, hinting that I, the second string drummer, would be taking the next solo. The solo I played that night was the worst bit of drumming I have ever done. After that performance, i realized that the road ahead of me was going to be long and hard.…

I was seeded 7th out of 21 kids. I had to wrestle a very tough kid my first match. Considering this was my first match of the district tournament, the nerves kicked in. My full potential was not shown in my first match and I walked away with a loss. The tournament wasn’t over and I had to keep my head up even though I knew losing again wasn’t an option. After an hour or so went by, it was time for my second match. The kid I had to wrestle wasn’t ranked and had a losing record so I assumed I could win. I went in with a positive mindset and came out victorious. I pinned him with 27 seconds left in the first period. With that win, I move on to the second day of the tournament. When the first day of wrestling is over, you have to option to weigh out that night or weigh in the next morning. I really wanted to eat that night so I chose to weigh out. Little did I know I was 4 pounds over. So after an hour of running I made weight and was able to eat that night. Laying in bed that night, I knew that tomorrow could be my last day wrestling all year. I had to give it my all. The next morning, we left the wrestling complex at 5:45 so we could be there by 7. Everyone slept the whole way there. After we all checked in, it was time to start warming up. I got a good sweat going in the warm up and felt confident. At about ten o’clock, it was time for my first match. I wrestled hard and walked away with the win. If I won my next match, I was going to the state wrestling…

With the honor, came responsibility and independence. We’d all been there for a reason, so when a new piece of music came around, our director didn’t spend much time practicing it in class, because we were expected to practice at home. As well, we were required to try out for all-city honors band. I did try out, but I never made it.…

Well, in my case, band has been the one thing I would look forward doing since I first witnessed my sister pick up her own flute and play her first tune. Band, in middle school, was a hobby that I truly treasured because it wasn’t your typical core class. This class, notably, enhanced the need to utilize my analytical skills, engage my mind, and run free with my covert musical self. After graduating middle school, starting marching band over the summer before my freshman year was my cloud of bewilderment. As the days passed, and the…

Ring Ring, we herd the phone and my mom answered, I could not hear what they were talking about but it just so happened to one of they most important phone calls of my life. It was December 10, 2014 that we got the phone call from a band asking me if I was interested in playing with there band at a live concert, first I though I was dreaming and then I realized I was'nt, I could not believe that I had the opportunity to play in a band at a concert at age 12. I had five days to make up my mind of weather or not to play on stage with this bad. I started practicing the songs I was going to perform and they were pretty easy for me but I just had this gut feeling like I was not going to do well. The next day I woke up it was coming so fast, and all I was focused on at the time was practice, practice, practice. This would be a once in a lifetime chance, a decision that would decide my future as a musician, it would decide respect, how people…

She was our ESL English teacher and immediately noticed that I was a new student and greeted me in nice way. She told me to stand up and introduce myself, which I did. After the lesson, we all went out for break. It was so nice for me because I interacted with so many students from different cultures. I was really glad to know many people and have new friends. For the first few weeks, everyone seemed to have a good English accent, which I didn’t have, but later I was on my way to understanding the new English accent. Most of the students I became friends with helped me, too. After a few weeks, one of my classmates saw me playing soccer; he started telling me about the high school soccer team, and he also told me I could be a good player for the team. I was so happy to hear that my school had a soccer team. I never played for a school team, but I played soccer all my life. Back in Kenya when I was nine years old, a recruiter from France wanted to take me to France to play soccer, but my parents didn’t let me go with him because they didn’t want me to play soccer. Instead, they wanted me to study Islamic education. When summer came, it was so long for me because I was waiting for the tryouts to begin. When finally the tryout started, I was ready to…

Today I was asked to join the school play that was happening in a few days. They gave me the dreaded green slip that would decide my fate in this next time period. Ideas of what could happen popped into my head. My head became a clash of good and bad ideas. The first thought that popped into my head was my mom.“You won’t learn if you don’t try”,Mom had once said before I joined the chess club. Than I pictured one thing I could do wrong and mess up the whole play. It would be to tip over the curtains and take out a few people while getting onto the stage. That would be disastrous for everyone including me big time because I would be sued or something worse. My next idea was I would have to memorize the whole play and then only quote mine and that would be excruciatingly hard to do because I would mess up a little on a line. Maybe if that cute girl Anishia joined I would join to be able to get to know her better. If I mess up, she would think I am the biggest dork of the century. Either that or she would help me get better. I think the first option would be her choice because she is a girl. Most girls think that way or at least when they are popular because they want to stay popular. If Dalton joins than I would definitely join because we don’t go anywhere without each other. We would back each other up if there was a…

Unlike the mainland, we do not have much facility, resources and a great economy. Despite of lacking needs, I received great education from great educating minds. It was my fortune to enroll in a school that provided musical education, a school concert band program. Even in a bad economy, our high school band (which I was in) got invited to the New York Music Festival and got a chance to play on the world’s most prestigious stage of Carnegie Hall. Unfortunately, because of band I had to give up my chance to take AP classes due to conflict in class schedule. I had to think it over twice by giving up something I love for another great opportunity, or keep this opportunity that was given to me and start fresh. I know it was a given chance for me, but then I chose band because by that time, band has become a big part of my life. Through my dedications in music I was able to enjoy doing what I love with my friends and family, traveling to places like New York, Guam, and London. If this was not my luck break, I don’t know what is.…
