Workplace Discrimination
I think that we talked about a very interesting topic today in class. Since I have started working at Northtown Autmotives in September, I have been exposed to discrimination in the workplace. I have learned that people socialize with people who are similar to them. This can be based on age, gender, race, personality, and so on. At the end of the day, everyone at my work ends up stereotyping and discriminating people intentionally and unintentionally. At the end of lecture, you mentioned ways to manage discrimination. Being aware is a very good way to try to simmer down the situation, but honestly I think that discrimination is something that is inevitable. I know that this is an appalling theory of mine, but I think that it is just …show more content…
People do not like being ignored. You made a good point in class on how people feel the need to belong somewhere. I agree with that 100%. Personally, I would rather not get along with one other person, than be ostracized by a whole group of people. If you do not get along with one person, so what? You will not get along with everyone you work with. It is not possible to get along with every single person in an organization due to differences in people. What matters though is respect. Just because you do not get along with someone, does not mean that you should be disrespectful or discriminate against them. Unfortunately, not everyone thinks this way and some people will discriminate unless there are …show more content…
They discriminate subconsciously. Not everyone is the same. If people were the same, everyone would get along. Regrettably this is not the case. As pointed in the slide, differences lead to miscommunication, misunderstanding, and conflict. If people were more aware of discrimination and open to diversity, as well as be able to set their differences aside, they would be able to function efficiently and be able to get any task set in front of them done. People have to learn to be more understanding and be more patient with different kinds of people; otherwise, the organization would not be able to function properly as a unit. In life, whether it is in the workplace or in another social setting, people will always have to deal with differences, whether it is based on age, race and ethnicity, gender, personality, values, attitudes, and so on. Society as a whole should start caring more about diversity and find ways to put an end to judging dissimilarities and be able to do what they came to their job to do, which is

Everyone in the world will experience discrimination at least once in their life. It is something that has become so accepted in the world today, not many people notice it even happening anymore. The famous quote by Roger Staubach, “Discrimination is a disease,” is one of the truest things I have heard. The families that discriminate the most often pass it on to their children, until everyone around them feels that way too. It just feeds off of itself until everyone tends to think that way. The three most examples that stick out to me is the holocaust, the book To Kill a Mockingbird, and of Mice and Men.…

Discrimination can come in all shapes and sizes. It can happen in everyday life and also in the work place. A lot of discrimination comes from ignorance, uneducated, stereotypes, and fear. These things do not excuse the behavior but are clearly things that can be changed. Some of these behaviors come from learned traits as a child and embedded in us in our upbringing. The community and media play a big part as well. The peers we surround ourselves with also influence us more then we may think. When something is different then what we are used to, the unknown scares us and placing prejudice in the place of the fear makes it easier to cope with. At which point this leads to discrimination to different degrees.…
