Work: Scientific Method and Exploratory Research
Analytical research is a type of research that utilises critical thinking to find out facts about a given topic and from the answers obtained develop new and useful ways of doing things. Critical thinking is a method of thinking that puts assumptions into question to decide whether a given claim is true or false.
When writing an analytical research paper, you must perform a variety of tasks beforehand. The first step is to formulate a thesis and then gather your sources that will be used. The sources should then be evaluated for accuracy. Everything should then be meticulously documented. There are many topics that can be used for this purpose. The list includes animal rights, minimum wage, vaccines, climate change, immigration, obesity, overpopulation, spanking, smoking bans, wind energy, and school uniforms.

Exploratory research of research conducted for a problem that has not been clearly defined. Exploratory research helps determine the best research design, data collection method and selection of subjects. It should draw definitive conclusions only with extreme caution. Given its fundamental nature, exploratory research often concludes that a perceived problem does not actually exist.
Exploratory research often relies on secondary research such as reviewing available literature and/or data, or qualitative approaches such as informal discussions with consumers, employees, management or competitors, and more formal approaches through in-depth interviews, focus groups, projective methods, case studies or pilot studies. The Internet allows for research methods that are more interactive in nature. For example, RSS feeds efficiently supply researchers with up-to-date information; major search engine search results may be sent by email to researchers by services such as Google Alerts; comprehensive search results are tracked over lengthy periods of time by services such as Google Trends; and websites may be created to attract worldwide feedback on any subject.

Contact a company whose sales are declining for a certain product, such a cereal brand producer. Look at reasons why the product may be failing. Consider product design, health issues and customer responses to the cereal in the grocery store aisle. You could interview some members of "Utah Moms for Clean Air" and get their reactions to the problem. Or, speak with local government officials to gather responses to the health risk. You may also talk with residents who do not know that the pollution problem exists or is a major threat in the basin area. When the newspapers publish the "air quality" for the day, gather responses. Maybe people still go running on a "red" air day (which is dangerous for the lungs) or keep themselves, and their children, huddled inside the home on risk days. Including a wide sweep of opinions, causes and potential solutions to the issue will keep your essay unbiased.
