A very sensitive subject for sometime, women playing sports alongside men. Women have argued that they are as strong, fast, and as skilled to play professional sports on the same team as men. As nice as that would be, it’s not a good idea. For one men are naturally more aggressive with higher testosterone levels, the female body is not built to match up against the males, and ultimately most men have the mind set that they are superior over women and would not play fair with the fact that a women is their opponent.
Female’s hormones certainly affect them; men’s hormones affect them also. It has been studied at Cambridge University how Testosterone affects men’s confidence, assertion, and aggression. Since men have testicles that produce more testosterone than women they are naturally more aggressive and muscular. “Women can get as intense and competitive as men in the same match (Ashley D).” Unfortunately this isn’t true. When it comes down too it a match up between a male NBA player, and a female WNBA player, the male will almost likely get more aggressive and more prone to hurt someone.
The strongest woman in the highest weight class can barely beat the strongest man in the second-lowest weight class. The strongest part on a women’s body is her legs. The strongest part on a males body is his upper body. “While the female body structure is pointed out to be weak, grail, and less intimidating (Ashley D).” That isn’t true. A woman playing in the NFL however would be a domination. Jasmine Vann is a 5’8 130lbs wide receiver for the national women’s football league, when Sidney Rice is a 6’8 202lbs wide receiver for the NFL. Its in women’s best interest to not put herself up against a man that size.
If you took a poll probably 8 out of 10 males would think that they are stronger than a girl. Boys are raised that way, told not to be a sissy, or baby, or a girl. If you matched up a high paid, big ego, professional baller to a girl…They would think there is no competition, even if she is 6’2 and 200lbs. A women would sadly not be taken serious in the NFL, NBA, or MLB. It would threaten the pride of a man to be beaten by a girl.

One of the key points to evaluate here is the argument that males biologically have an advantage in the majority of sports. In the vast number of cases this is true, however this should not be a reason why females are either discriminated against or feel pressurised to not participate in a sport. In a study done by McArdle, Katch & Katch in 1981, it was shown that among Western adults, men are around 50 percent stronger than women1. One thing that is important to point out here is that the average female has not been encouraged to participate in activities that would develop the growth and potential of muscles in the same way men have been encouraged to do. The stereotype that women should be slender and with little muscle does not aid this particular viewpoint on women’s sport. This leads on to the point of the history of female sport and the view on women’s roles in society. The earlier you go back in history, the more the viewpoint has existed that women are there to aid the husband in the house and bring up the children whilst he is out earning the money. This was very much the case and still is in some cultures, which inhibited and inhibits women from participating in sport because they simply do not have the time for it. As Spears (1978) said in his study, “Only the exceptional woman was involved in sport”2.
