I really enjoyed reading this book. I enjoyed how the author explains what it means to conduct business with integrity. The book was about how you listen to your moral compass; about how you build teams with the highest values...share success...take responsibility...earn the rewards that only come with giving back. Mr. Huntsman built his career and fortune on these principles—from his refusal of the Nixon administration's corrupt demands, to his lifelong commitment to charity, to the way he approaches his biggest deals. Huntsman's life proves honesty is more than right: it's your biggest competitive differentiator. A couple of my favorite quotes from the book are: “Life is not a game of Solitaire; people depend on one another.”
“The devil never makes you do anything. Be honest. Improper actions often appear to be easier routes, or require no courage, or are temporarily advantageous.” …show more content…
He shows us that we should place ourselves around those who have the courage to say no; treat others with respect; that leadership requires risk and responsibility; and compete fiercely, but no cutting in line. (41)
In chapter 3 Play by the Rules I like how he articulated how you lead by example. We he writes:
“if these leaders and role models set bad examples, those following frequently follow suit.”(52)
Chapter 4 was very good as well as he goes into want it leadership means. One point that I am glad he expressed was that leadership is not meant to be dominion over others and that it is a position that is a composite of characteristics that earns respect.
