With the failure of some liberties in Communism, it is important that we understand our liberties and how it can affect our society. How we can understand and learn is based on the core and basis of each person of each community when they are young and open minded. Even though most students are too young to vote, that does not give an excuse to neglect and ignore the fact that they should take an active role in their community and nation. Many students do know what is going on in their community, to an extent, but few actually take the time and effort to put their thoughts into action. This is a very fatal mistake in the society because how involved a citizen is originates in their early years. It is said that history repeats itself, so then it is understandable to study history to understand its future trends. Therefore, it would be wise for young adults to learn about what is going on in their community and nation and how it would affect them. This will be able for the students to realize what would help benefit and what will be detrimental to their society and nation. These new enlightened young adults will then grow up having the knowledge of what the nation needs, how it works, and how to help it, and prevent certain trends like communism to occur. “The only thing necessary for evil to prevail, is for good men to do nothing”- Edmund Burke. This quote can also show why students should get involved in their community. Stated before, many students do know what is going on in their community. However, few take the steps to change something that they think would help benefit the society. Every student thinks differently, so every student brings new ideas, reforms, and beliefs to the table. If students do what they think is right rather than hoping that another person would speak up and bring change, then there would be more variety of what to do and not confined to a few ideas. Very few students take a very active role in their community; many of them would rather stay home and watch television or hang out with friends. However, taking an active role in their community, such as volunteering can be a rewarding experience for the student as well as his future. Volunteering activities such as working for a community center, daycare center, or hospital can teach students many things including self-sacrifice. As established before, many students would rather watch television or hang out with friends rather than doing work for the community. However, when doing work for the community forces students to sacrifice their time for the good of the community, this can then be used for time for studying rather than playing. Other things that volunteering can help with is further knowledge of his/her community, helping others can help the student learn to respect what he/she has and much more.
