Why social Media is Good
Social media is good to have because it can help get important information around faster and help students learn digital responsibility.
Social media can help get important information around in a much faster manner. “Burlington parents had instant access to information and a place to have questions answered swiftly. This saved school administrators hours that in the past we would’ve spent answering phone calls from parents and news media.” (Larkin, 72). During crisis situations the schools would have to call each and every parent in order to get news around and that could take hours, and in those hours parents are worried and freaking out about their children. Because of a social media site, parents can get quick texts sent out to their phones and in minutes every parent of every child knows what is going on with their child and don’t have to spend time waiting on a phone call from the school. “Twitter and Facebook have displaced traditional media as the places where many people get news first.” (Larkin, 71). These social media places are where everyone goes to get information first. Schools are learning to embrace this and use this to their advantage rather than try to fight it. Social media sites are not as evil as these schools feel they are, they are helpful if you use them right. As the old saying states, if you can’t beat them, join them. Social media is taking over our society and it’s not going to be stopped, schools need to learn to embrace this and take full advantage of it.
Students need to learn how to be responsible using social media, and cannot learn that if they are not allowed to use it. “Ultimately, our job in schools has always been to prepare students for what they’ll face when they leave our schools and transition to college or the workplace.” (Larkin 71). How are students supposed to be prepared if schools do not allow students to use the tools they will

By blocking access to all social media, it can also block helpful ways of communication between students and teachers. By putting things in a social network perspective, students can use YouTube to learn about things inside their classroom. Computers and social media can become allies in the hands of a creative teacher. For example, I had a teacher in high school that used Twitter as a tool in her class. She used to tweet our homework, the things we did in class, and we had class discussions. The principal watched our tweets, and if we put anything that went beyond the school rules, we would not be able to use Twitter. This is a great tool for students and teachers to communicate other than Email. As teenagers and young adults, we use social media to communicate with others much more than email, phone calls, or appointments with the teacher.…

Allowing minors to to use social media takes away their characteristic of being antisocial, as well as making them very knowledgeable about current events that are happening in the world they live in. It is shown in a study at Eastwood High School that two in three students who eat alone during lunch have absolutely no social media to interact with others. This shows that social media plays a key factor in the interaction of the making of new friends. Along with the making of new friends there is also the gaining of knowledge about certain events occurring in our world. As shown in a CNN study over the years, allowing children to watch the CNN student news gives them a lot of knowledge about the world which does not make them oblivious to these things like many other people are around the United States. This allows the students to realize that they should be thankful for…

Many kids are growing up in a technological advanced world. They have phones, computers, social medias, and virtual reality games. Although this may seem like a negative factor, it is not. Kids are growing up learning about who they are with the use of technology while we know who we are but technology is changing that from us. According to the article,”Growing Up With Social Networks and Online Communities,” the author states,” Students can benefit from reciprocal sharing with bloggers from other ethnic groups or nations. By reading peer postings, children get confirmation that they are not alone in how they feel or interpret current events. These benefits increase if teachers make assignments that can connect student motivation with existing resources,”. (Growing Up With Social Networks and Online Communities” 3 ) This article indicates that many kids growing up with technology have a better sense of understanding themselves. Everyone has access to social media, but children abuse it. Children can find articles, blogs and information regarding current events. This may lead to teachers using technology and social media as a way to teach children about important matters. The source of education the internet provides is outstanding but let's not forget about what really is online and that is sexual predators, pedophiles, hackers, trolls, and thieves. Throughout history, people have improved the way communication and human interaction can be made. From writing letters, to talking on the telephone, to texting and sending emails, the way we exchange information is always being improved upon. Social media is now the most popular way of communication. It is a means of exchange in which people form and share info and ideas in virtual communities and networks. It can be accessed by the devices that people deem necessary and hard to live without like cellphones, computers, tablets, televisions, and even game consoles. There is an unlimited amount of things that you can do on social media sites and very few restrictions. People believe that this is where the problem comes in. Being able to do almost anything online can cause a lot of harm. There are many people that take advantage of these systems and invade privacy, and commit other shameful acts. It makes you wonder if social media is doing more harm than help in today’s society. It is good for you to play games or share videos with a friend on a website like Facebook, but when someone else is being harassed or getting cyber-bullied on the same site, it does not seem so good. Social media being distracting and causing different forms of stress adds to its disservices, and causes its detriments to outweigh its own benefits.…
