The bad effects of social media

In today world 96% of people use some type of social media whether it be Facebook , Twitter or some other type of social media. Social media play such a big role in our everyday lives that some people can’t imagine not using it at least once a day. The one thing that all social media have in come is the negative effects it has on young kids and teenagers in today’s society.

Researchers are calling today’s teens and college student’s “iGeneration,” a generation that is constantly connected to the internet and Facebook. New studies reveal the psychological effects of constant Facebooking. Some of the psychological effects are lack of empathy and increased aggression and traits associated with mental illnesses like schizophrenia and depression. Some other bad effects of social media are that it detracts teen from learning.

One of the biggest risks of social media is cyberbullying and online harassment. Social media make it easier to continue bullying somebody that was being bullying on at school. Like by posting bad thing about the person and uploading pictures of the person. Another thing that teens and kids are at risk form social media is sexting. Sexting is receiving or forwarding sexually explicit messages photographs or images via cell phone, computer or other digital devices. Depression is another risk that teens face from social media, they change there sleeping and eating habits and becoming socially isolated.

People that use social media are sometimes unaware of the dangers from the internet such as hacker, they upload there information like what are they doing and what time there going to do it. The social media can also hurt your relationships by posting pictures with friends who might be ex-boyfriends or girlfriends, messages from admirers, online flirting. It may also lead to somebody stalking you, so be careful who befriend on facebook.
