Depression, stress, and harmful past experiences are all reasons why someone might seek for refuge. People need refuge to get their minds off of experiences that may haunt them. Based on what McCandless states some people may also find joy and refuge like he does while being outdoors watching the horizon. Just like some people are able to find comfort in certain locations, everyone else can.
It is important being part of a sport to find refuge. Running, and hiking can help release stress and make someone feel better about themselves .
