Why Kids Should Start Later In School
If you had the choice, would you choose to sleep or go to school? Wouldn’t you want school to start later so you could get your nine hours? Well, it’s not as ideal as it seems. For the past few years, the Littleton Public Schools district, along with other school districts around the country, discussed the idea of the change of school start and end times. For the most part of this school year, the district has started to ask parents and students for their opinions and to come up with different solutions that will appeal to everyone. Since the beginning of the school year, the district has been undertaking all the different ideas that the parents want for their kids to get more sleep. However, a later start shouldn't be the answer because it has numerous major conflicts with activities, free time, and other aspects that take part in teen and adolescents lives. Students everywhere would like a later start, even if it's minor. The district sees this, but superfluous conflicts continue to materialize if the final decision is to do the delay in the morning. P.O, senators and judge, I stand as Senator Ortega to keep start times the same for the sake of everyone . School start times will cause a burden in many situations. Moving school start times later will result in increased costs to school systems and unacceptable disruption to many families. Advocates — and editorial boards — may choose to minimize or ignore these impacts, but local school boards cannot. School boards are responsible for balancing competing priorities in the face of limited resources, and should consider return on investment before embarking on such changes. The AAP’s Adolescent Sleep Working Group reviewed studies involving inadequate sleep in teens. Researchers analyzed the harmful effects sleep deprivation—anything less…

High school classes should begin later in the day and end later in the day to accommodate students' natural sleep clocks, this would get them on a schedule and would also allow them to stay energized through they whole day. Schools should end later in the day so that when students get home, they won't have time to take a nap, which tend to make people stay up later then they need to. Teenagers need lots of sleep and by beginning and ending the classes later would make that a lot easier! In the article “Our kids need more sleep” Written by Valerie Erde, she makes many good points about why school should be set back to a later time. First is how it increases academic alertness and vigilance. Second, is how a later start time decreases depression in teens and decreases tardiness and decreases truancy. Last, is how this later start time is actually helping the students get better grades. I one hundred percent agree with this and believe these policies should definitely be implemented.…

I think that starting the school day later would greatly benefit the students and teachers. if we started school at about say nine thirty in the morning instead of eight thirty or earlier, that would mean that most students wouldn't need to be awake in the morning till almost seven thirty to eight thirty and some kids could even wake up a little later then that depending on where they live. granite it is proven that high school students only need six to eight hours of sleep each night but there is always that few that never get the six to eight hours of sleep.…
