Why I Want To Start Dbq
I would re-enlist after my 9-month term, because I first think that since I survived the very harsh and cold winter that I owe it to my fellow 1,800 to 2,500 dead soldiers, who died during encampment (Found in document A), to fight for what they died for and to try and win the war alongside with George Washington and my other fellow living soldiers who bore and survived the horrible winter with me. I also would re-enlist because the government I'm working for, and possibly dying for, has came to our horrible camp and approved of George Washington, even after he was ridiculed and investigated by many different groups (Found in document B), to be a fit and capable leader of the Continental Army I have given so much of my soul and meaningful time away from my family to. …show more content…
I also want to re-enlist because of the powerful words Thomas Paine expressed in the great book, The American Crisis (Found in document D), his amazing message showed me how much I would mean to my past ancestors, my present fellow peers, and my future family who should grow up in a world without British rule, if I stayed and re-enlisted in the Continental Army and didn’t run off and desert my fellow soldiers like so many cowardly others did in the past, his message was also so inspiring that he opened up my eyes to so many different paths and ideas of slavery and tyranny, his message also showed me how much I admire the things I don’t really work for, unless I stay in the Continental Army, like my freedom and my God-given right to vote on what taxes I should have to pay, no matter how crucial they are to me or anyone else in this

War is hard, but not a hardship worth quitting for. In December 1777-1778, General George Washington made his winter camp at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. The British army under General Howe was only a few miles away in Philadelphia. Washington now has a problem because many of his men have signed up to fight for only nine months. Their terms are now coming to an end. After thinking long and hard I am deciding to reenlist for three main causes, lack of soliders due to illness, loyalty to my country, and belief in winning for pride.…

There are many reasons to stay and fight for the Continental Army and for the country's freedom from the British. My biggest reason would be the need General George Washington had for soldiers. After one year people would leave and abandon Washington and the army. Another reason to stay was to stop the British from commanding…

The American Army had seen hard times during the first two years of the Revolutionary War. They had been the victor in two battles—one in Trenton and one in Philadelphia—but other than that, it had not gone very well. (Background Essay) Because of these struggles, Washington had a hard time keeping his soldiers in the army since many signed up for only nine months and then left or simply deserted. This brings up the question: Would you have reenlisted for the army at Valley Forge? I most definitely would not have because of the illnesses, the government neglecting the soldiers, and the bad conditions that existed there.…

George Washington had led the Continental Army through battle after battle, and only won two minor battles. While the British set up comfortable quarters in Philadelphia, George Washington had his men build uniform huts in Valley Forge, a few miles away. Sickness and disease ran rampant, and conditions were torturous. Your family is poor and your mother is ill. Since your nine-month enlistment is up, Washington's men are progressing from hut to hut to find out if soldiers will reenlist or quit. The question asked by this Mini-Q is, ‘Had you been a soldier at Valley Forge, would you have quit?’ I would have quit because the British army had so many advantages and illness was almost unavoidable.…

Imagine you’re freezing and starving, your friends are all sick and dying, and on top of all that, you’re in the middle of a war. In the winter of 1777 and 1778, this was how George Washington and his troops lived. They spent a long winter in blistering cold weather and lived in poorly built huts. We had no shoes, food, or supplies in general. If you were in this situation and you had served your enlistment time, would you re-enlist and go back to these conditions? I personally did not re-enlist because there were harsh conditions, people were getting sick and dying, and we had no support or supplies from congress.…

It was 1777. My comrades and I trudged through murky snow and grass on the way to winter camp in Valley Forge, PA. Lots of my fellow men were sick. There was no food and no supplies. General Washington was asking us to reenlist for another 9 months. I was confused. Should I reenlist or not? I reenlisted for another 9 months because my comrades were getting sick, of my loyalty to my government, and my belief in the cause.…

I will re-enlist because I have hope that the Committee of Congress will be here for us in times of need. The picture in Document B shows, “George Washington presenting the Congressional Committee to soldiers at Valley Forge”, this showed me that George Washington knows what he’s doing and knows how to treat his men. Having the Congressional Committee stop by and retrieve supplies for the retreat gave everyone hope that the people do care for our health. If the people from the Congressional Committee are loyal to us then it just seems right to be loyal for them.…

The first reason as to why i am not reenlisting is because of death and illness. So many soldiers are becoming more and more ill every day. There are about 8,000 men here at Valley Forge and about half of those men are sick (doc A). Also about 1,800 to 2,500 men are dying due to these illnesses(doc A). I know that there is a very high chance for me to get incredibly ill from my fellow soldiers. Furthermore, if i do end up getting ill i could potentially die. Because of death and illness i am not going to be reenlisting because i know that i could possibly get sick and pass away.…

The conditions in Valley Forge was bad because there are a lot of sick people, but not a lot of them were dying. Throughout December 23, 1777 only 2,898 soldiers were ill and in February 1, 1778 there was 3,989 soldiers were ill. (Doc A) Which is about 50% considering the fact that 4,000 soldiers died by the beginning of February and it would leave them 8,000 soldiers left. Now, the sickness only killed 1,800 out of 12,000 soldiers (bottom and top of Doc. A) and it can mean that only 15% of the soldiers were dying and 85% were alive, so I would stay because I have a larger chance of living than dying.…

Plutarch stated, “The poor go to war, to fight and die for the delights, riches, and superfluities of others.” The Continental Army at Valley Forge were for sure not treated with enough respect, support, and enthusiasm as it takes to win the war. Around half of the soldiers at Valley Forge, as I recall, were reported sick in the first few months. Also, the whole Army was not presented warm clothes and warm shelters. We only had one pair of socks, shoes, and everything, which got torn apart not far into the stay. British treatment and clothes were better than our army had. Supplies for the Continental Army only lasted for about a month. Congress was of little help, as well as Americans back at home. I have decided to not re-enlist for three reasons which are the conditions of living, the little help from the people, and too many sicknesses and deaths.…

Our General hasn’t been doing a real good job of fulfilling the army’s needs. I mean, if Washington would have brought more materials to build bigger huts, having shelter would not have been a problem. If Washington could have asked for more supplies, like food or clothing, we would not have been starving or freezing to death. “ Not surprisingly, Washington was having trouble keeping his soldiers.”(Valley Forge) It is true that Washington was having keeping us troops,he even may possibly be losing me. Some troops decided to abandon, or leave and never come back from the army. “To make matters worse, Washington’s own position was uncertain. Some members of Congress did not trust him.” (Valley Forge) Like I said, it seemed like Washington was losing trust. Even our congress is starting to lose trust in Washington. To my hut friends, and I, it seemed like Washington was leading a lost war already. So, the third reason why I have decided to not reenlist from camp is because Washington is losing hope and…
